Nepal’s stance softening? PM KP Oli’s defence minister change a positive sign
NEW DELHI: A cabinet reshuffle effected by Nepal PM K P Oli, including a change in portfolio for defence minister Ishwor Pokharel, led to speculation that the pro-China leader might be signalling a softening of his go nment’s position on the border dispute with India.
Pokharel was seen not just as hostile to India but also as one of the ruling party leaders with a pronounced China tilt.
Pokhrel had sought to provoke Gurkha soldiers in the Indian army after the army chief hinted at China's role in Nepal's protests against the construction of a border road to Lipulekh for Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims.
Pokharel, who was apparently not on good terms with the Nepal army, has been assigned to the powerful PMO.
Official sources both here and in Kathmandu seemed guarded, and chose not to hazard a guess, when asked if this indeed was a climb-down by Oli.
Oli’s decision to relieve Pokharel from the ministry coincided though with the announcement by the Nepal army that the Indian army chief, MM Naravane, was going to visit Kathmandu next month.
The MEA here didn’t respond to a query about the cabinet reshuffle with the spokesperson only saying that India has outlined conditions for the dialogue that Nepal wants with India.
Oli himself is seen by India as responsible for the damage caused to bilateral ties in recent times because of his decision to rush through the parliamentary process to validate Nepal’s new map that shows Indian territories in it.
It is good if he does do that. But on ground it does seems to be
NOW they want to talk. India should let Nepal be kicked by China a bit. Let China occupy Nepalese territory.
Vivekananda Real Indian
This is not a good idea. You can not treat your neighbor this way. They are proud people. We need them in our group as they have same religion, culture and custom.
Whether Nepal stance softening or hardening. It shouldnt bother us. Nepal is small country. We should concentrare on China
Being a land lock country, Nepal can not afford bad ties with India
He has already sold his soul to the chinese. His swiss account is brimming with chinese doles.
Can you trust a Nepali or a Chinese or even for that matter an Indian Commie? NEVER.
Well Nepal also not trustable now.
Oli has shown India his place.
It is not Nepal but China wants a wayout for the current crisis. It is another way of deceiving India to bring to the table. India should not fall into trap.
never know one day Pakistan also might ask Indias help to rescue them from China..
There is a saying " Beggars can't be Choosers".
Our Pappu was also trapped by China like Oli. When Pappu will understand, now Oli could make out when China has already built infrastructure on Nepali’s land
Nepal just went through puberty and threw some teenage tantrums but big brother India is willing to forgive.
Oli is an opportunist. Now, when China has already started capturing land and building its own buildings, Oli feels that Modi will be out once again to help Nepal. Such friendship should be done away with and let Nepal fight out on its own.
Nepal is always a natural friendly country to India. Nepalese are earning their livelihood in India, living across the country. A mistake can always be rectified.
If they need help from India, they would ask.
Who is he to soften the stands? Just wait and seem him slip into the abyss of oblivion
He is a real Hindu unlike Modi bhashtard.
Let Nepal learn a lesson hard way. we should leave them on their fate to take decisions. This way they will learn their lessons for future also
