Europe is enduring one of its deadliest early-summer heatwaves on record, with the WHO estimating more than 1,300 excess deaths — around 1,000 in France alone.

Yet temperatures peaked near 35°C, far below the 45–48°C India routinely endures.

So why is Europe’s “milder” heat proving so lethal?

In India high humudity is followed by precipitation of Rain within few days or within a week. Is not that bad. But in GERMANY , they do not sell Fans , they do not have ceiling fans in their homes neither AC , also to buy fans they have to search so much in market which is also so far away from residential areas that too they have to walk atleast 30 to 40 minute to market in this heat So , they prefer to stay home

The reason it's real difficult to bear the heat is Because europe is situated much further north than India, its summer days are incredibly long. The sun rises as early as 5:00 AM and sets as late as 10:00 PM. This gives asphalt, concrete buildings, and pavements up to 17 hours to bake in the sun. The remaining 7 hours of darkness are simply not long enough for the urban environment or the insulated buildings to cool down before the cycle resets.

No, heat isn't wet here in Europe. Wet is in calcuta or Bangkok. The problem in Europe is that most of the people don't even have a ventilator and houses are made for kee the heat for winter

I went to India in April and spent the night in 44C. The hotel A/C was faulty. I agree it's not as muggy as you might think in India and there is a lot of greenery. They don't chop all the bush and that helps.

The same heat is much harder to bear if the air is humid. Winter is cold, you have to heat the buildings, so apartments cannot be optimized for summer. What would be good in summer would not be good for three quarters of the year.

Canada has AC everywhere. It can be 55 outside and you'll be at 22 inside a car or a building. There's no heat stress

I am not minimising the situation of Europe, such température are not common here, for me it was bearable compared to South India coastal side where humidity is horribly high.
The humidity rate in France was rather close to 20-30% than 60%, because of the omega effect.
