In just a few years China has become the world’s largest car exporter, and electric vehicle-maker BYD is leading the way; it's now the top-selling EV producer globally, overtaking Tesla and expanding into Europe and beyond. Bloomberg’s Tom Mackenzie reports from Paris, where BYD unveiled its latest luxury EV: the Denza Z9GT.

@FranciscoSilva-kp5hw no. They offer great value for money, which is not the same. Also, it’s not only BYD, there are a lot of brands (even though there are fewer automakers, each has a few brands). I’m from Argentina and have recently bought a Chinese medium/big (for our market) hybrid SUV and it has been great. US and EU manufacturers have a lot to learn from the Chinese brands. Some have the same view as of that country’s manufacturing hasn’t changed in the last 15 years, great mistake.

I remember the interview. Warren Buffet said he didn't know much about EV, but he met the CEO of BYD. He said that guy was an extraordinary man. He invested in his company because of him.

I live in Mexco and bought a BYD EV (a Yuan Pro) in July last year. The quality of this car, from interior to fit and finish, in every aspect, is far beyond any car I have ever owned. Amazing engineering and workmanship.

Took a tour of BYD factory 10 years ago. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen and it’s 10x better now. This is why Musk gave up on cars, he was never even close.

Quantity doesn't mean quality. Chinese aren't capable yet to produce high end machine tools like in Europe or Japan. They are competing in the "good enough" sector but in Europe they are insignificant when it comes to machine tools.

When China, a country with 1.4 billion people and the second largest economy in Nominal GDP term, the biggest in PPP term, started to export loads of cars, they called that a threat and over-capacity. When it was Japan, or Germany, had more than 90% less population, and much smaller economy, dominated the global automotive market, they said nothing. I loathe Western journalism not for them trying to smear China, which I understand, they fear, they know exactly what they have done to this country and being afraid of being accounted for, but for them keep playing this double standard card every time, shamelessly, and thinking audiences are all dumb and stupid. It's 2026 already, do something new please, boys, it's boring.
