GUWAHATI/NEW DELHI: An Indian Air Force (IAF) An-32 transport aircraft crashed while landing at Rowriah airbase in Assam’s Jorhat on Saturday, killing five personnel on board.

The co-pilot miraculously survived the crash and is undergoing treatment, a source told TOI. The IAF has begun a detailed probe into the cause of the tragedy. “The Indian Air Force deeply regrets the loss of five personnel in the An-32 accident at Jorhat, Assam. Sqn Ldr Prashant Singh, Flt Lt Shubham Kumar, Sgt Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat and Agniveervayu Danish Alam made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

IAF extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and stands firmly with them in this hour of grief,” IAF said in a post on X on Saturday.Giving details, IAF said the “aircraft met with an accident during a routine sortie today at approxmately 1000h at Jorhat, Assam. Crash site management and initial enquiries are on at this time.”

Defence minister Rajnath Singh wrote on X, “Deeply anguished by the loss of five air warriors in the An-32 accident at Jorhat, Assam…made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and service to the nation will always be remembered with pride and gratitude.

印度空军向遇难者家属致以最深切的哀悼，在这悲痛的时刻，我们会始终陪伴着他们。”

印度空军介绍，这架飞机于当日上午10时左右在阿萨姆邦焦尔哈特执行常规飞行任务时失事。目前现场处置与初步调查工作正在开展。

I have been saying for many years, it’s not the jet or planes all the time. It’s our pilots, be it civilian pilots or military pilots , we are not that good enough. Send all of them for international training. In 1965 and 1971 army and navy have always been good but airforce has always been our weak point and in 2019 and 2025 we also saw that and how our jets were shot down and we kept mumb and later CDS and others came and said yes jets down but doesn’t matter. I don’t understand why we don’t train our pilots and send them to courses ?

Our country losing the most powerful patriots in such a bizarre accident.matter of deep thought though .we can't afford to lose our heroes in such accidents. Now it's a pilot failure or engine glitch demands minute inspection. IAF must ensure to avoid such accidents .our Airforce is numero uno in the world and almost impregnable. Why can't our technicians and engineers ensure safe take off & landing besides empowering our pilots with still better skills & updated techniques.
