RUDRAPUR: A 22-year-old man eloped with his stepmother nearly twice his age and started living together to the utter shock of his father. The 55-year-old father, resident of a village in Bazpur area of Udham Singh Nagar district, had married for a second time soon after the death of his first wife 11 years ago.

He has now lodged a complaint with local police, claiming that his son has "married my second wife."

After launching a probe in the case, cops said that they are still trying to ascertain what law, if any, was broken by the couple. In his police complaint, the man's father, who works as a daily wager, alleged that his son assaulted him and his wife refused to return home. "My second wife also left with our daughter and took away Rs 20,000," the man said.

If she wedded the father dude 11 years ago and now has simply eloped with son dude and gotten wedded to him too, without getting an official decree nisi or divorce or some such then, the lady is guilty of polyandry? Polygamy is perhaps already illegal but it wouldn't be surprising if our lawmakers forgot to include polyandry too... In the latter case, then it's all hunkydory unless there's some arcane law prohibiting a dude from wedding an already wedded dudess?
