FEROZEPUR: Harpreet Singh, a farmer from Ferozepur who was arrested in Shimla while protesting peacefully in support of agitating farmers and released after being detained for a day, on Friday said he had written an “emotional open letter” to Hiraben Modi, mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the letter, Harpreet has sought Hiraben’s help for repeal of the three farm laws. “I am writing this letter with the expectation that Narendra Modi, your son, who is the Prime Minister of India, would repeal the three farm laws,” he wrote, adding that no person could refuse his mother’s request as the people of India look at their mother as god. “Dear Mother, the Prime Minister of our country is your son and I feel, he cannot say no to you. Please help thousands of farmers, who braved the cold, sitting at dharna at Delhi border to get these anti-farmer laws repealed,” he has written. He intends to send the letter soon to the PM’s mother. Harpreet was accorded a warm welcome when he arrived in Ferozepur on Thursday night.

Harpreet, along with Karandeep Sandhu and Gurpreet Singh from Punjab’s Mohali district and capital Chandigarh, were arrested under CrPC Sections 107 (apprehension of breach of peace) and 151(arrest to prevent cognizable offenses) on Wednesday as they had no permission to hold a protest at The Ridge in Shimla. “We had staged the protest as we felt the media is not giving enough coverage,” he said.
