China's ‘sky school bus’ lifts pupils to mountain-top classrooms and a brighter future

中国 “空中校车”，把山里的学生送往崖顶教室，托举起山里孩子的未来

Massive lifts that ascend from a canyon floor in China’s Yunnan province have cut the commuting time for pupils from more than three hours to just 30 minutes. The pair of elevators replaced a punishing mountain trek with a rapid vertical journey.

在中国云南省，巨大的升降电梯从峡谷底部向上运行，把山里孩子的上学通勤时间从三个多小时缩短至仅0.5小时。两部电梯，让孩子免于艰苦难行的山路跋涉之苦。

云南宣威市普立乡尼珠河大峡谷谷底的小学生们乘坐“空中校车”上学。9月1日，当地村民称，他小时候上学走路要用三四个小时，山路难行又危险，上学堪比攀岩，现在孩子们上学坐缆车、乘电梯，全程只要半个小时。

尼珠河村位于尼珠河大峡谷谷底，从村里到山顶的小学，海拔落差有五六百米。

尼珠河村坐落于尼珠河大峡谷，与位于崖顶的官寨完小垂直落差达500余米，险峻的地形长期阻隔了当地孩子的求学路。在“空中校车”投用之前，村里的学生为按时到校，天未亮便启程，沿陡峭的崖壁险道徒步攀爬往返。

For all of the children that live on the mountain... Only like everywhere there are less children and young families living in the countryside now, so there are less students, so now they come from further down the mountain too to attend school higher up.

As as hiker and climber, am I crazy to want go try that 3.5 hours hike/climb those students use to do. Honestly, I think it will be great if they can develop the route, it will attract a lot of hiker and climber alike

I don’t really care about all your questions. As long as these kids can go to school without needing to live in a boarding school, like some children in remote areas of China, I’m happy for them. The rest doesn’t really matter to me.
But it’s pretty obvious that this elevator will be used for many things. It would be a waste if it were only used to transport a few students.
