China expands visa waiver: 50 countries now eligible for 30-day visa-free entry

中国扩大免签政策：已有50个国家可免签入境停留30天

Starting from February 17, 2026, to facilitate cross border travel, China has decided to expand its visa waiver policy to holders of regular Canadian and British passports. The policy will allow qualified visitors from the two nations to enter China without a visa and remain for a maxmum of 30 days for a variety of reasons, such as transit, business, tourism, visiting family or friends, or exchange programs.

Also, when China eased its visa-free policy in 2025, it allowed citizens of 48 countries to enter the country without a visa for stays of up to 30 days. The easing of the visa-free policy was intended to make it easier for people to travel to China for business, tourism, visiting relatives, exchanges, and transit purposes while ensuring that there are proper regulatory guidelines at the borders. With the addition of 2 new countries in the list, the count of countries eligible for visa-free travel to China goes up to 50.

自2026年2月17日起，为便利跨境人员往来，中国决定对持普通护照的加拿大、英国公民实施免签政策。符合条件的两国人员赴华从事过境、商务、旅游、探亲、交流等活动，可免办签证入境，停留期限最长为30天。

2025年中国优化免签政策时，已对48个国家公民实行入境停留不超过30天的免签待遇。该政策旨在为来华从事商务、旅游、探亲、交流及过境的人员提供便利，同时确保边境管理规范有序。此次新增2个国家后，中国免签入境适用国家总数增至50个。

Who is eligible?

适用对象

Nationals holding valid ordinary passports from the following 50 countries are eligible:

Canada, United Kingdom, Brunei, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Australia, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Republic of Korea, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Russia and Sweden.

Eligible travellers may stay in China for up to 30 days without a visa, provided the purpose of travel falls under approved categories.

持以下50个国家有效普通护照的公民：

加拿大、英国、文莱、法国、德国、意大利、西班牙、荷兰、瑞士、爱尔兰、匈牙利、奥地利、比利时、卢森堡、新西兰、澳大利亚、波兰、葡萄牙、希腊、塞浦路斯、斯洛文尼亚、斯洛伐克、挪威、芬兰、丹麦、冰岛、安道尔、摩纳哥、列支敦士登、韩国、保加利亚、罗马尼亚、克罗地亚、黑山、北马其顿、马耳他、爱沙尼亚、拉脱维亚、日本、巴西、阿根廷、智利、秘鲁、乌拉圭、沙特阿拉伯、阿曼、科威特、巴林、俄罗斯、瑞典。

符合条件的人员，赴华事由属于规定范围的，可免签停留不超过30天。

I just went for a 10 days stop over to Beiing on my way to Vietnam and got 10 days visa free to China without any problem or cost. however they told me that using my EU passport on the way back would be better as i ll get 30 days instead, which i need for the full train tour i am planning.
