I live in Brazil and had never heard of BYD until 2022. Now they have dealerships all over the country, with at least 10 in my home state. I own a 2025 BYD Seal, which I bought a year ago—531 horsepower, extremely advanced technologically, very well built, comfortable, quiet, and a real pleasure to drive. It’s comparable to a Tesla. The cost of ownership is also very low, since I can charge the car at home. I was so happy with the experience of owning a Chinese electric car that I bought an Omoda E5 for my wife—excellent value for money, a beautiful car, and also very high-end. I have to admit: I’ve always owned Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Audi, and Volkswagen vehicles, and these Chinese electric cars are far superior to any I’ve had before. And the price and maintenance costs are simply unmatched. In three years, you in Canada will reach the same conclusion I did: these are vehicles of very high quality.

@danrobert7136 The Chinese EV market is hyper competitive in China. There are still about 130 EV manufacturers thrashing it out at that market. Apart from the top 10 names you may have heard of, there are another 120+ EV companies snap away at their tails. That means feature and quality improvements are unrelenting. If the Canadian government allows, they will bring their competition to Canadian shores and that can only mean one thing - Canadians will be spoilt for choice driving super affordable, super quality, EVs in the coming years.

You mirror my experience here in Australia. Also a Seal owner and previously an ATTO 3 owner charge from Huawei home solar system including 25kWh Huawei batteries (Personal protest against governmet banning Huawei 5G under US orders).

They got a lot of funding from the China, NIO did too, but BYD is expanding quickly after actually losing money a year or two ago.

@jennv6695 They are probably very new it may take a bit of time to do a reasonable valuation, I forgot, the name of the video and where the cars were dropped off but BYD has there own ships and apparently the cars can load and unload themselves.

I am living in Thailand, owning a BYD Dolphin with the 60 kWh battery. I am very happy after 28 months and 67,000 km. My practical range in these condition is about 400 kilometres. The built quality is really good. BYD assembles now in Thailand and has build up a very good dealer network within a short time. The lead the Thai EV market with about 35%. The best sellers are the Dolphin, Atto 3 and Sealion 7.

Also living in Thailand where there's charging stns literally everywhere. Interested in a BYD Seagull/Surf/Atto 1 which they'll hopefully launch here soon. Cost in China is under $10k, here likely around 400k THB thus $13k USD / 17K CAD. EVs avg just 20 moving parts vs 2000+ on petrol to maintain, cost 75% less to 'fill up', dual airbags and 5 star EU crash test, it just make sense (and cents;)

@SideTripLife I don't think that the Seagull/Surf/Atto 1 will come to Thailand. But we will see. The Thai subsidies force the car manufactures to assemble in Thailand. BYD currently assembles 5 models and I don't know if they have the capacity for more. BYD Thailand already skipped the Atto 2 (which I would like to have) and the Shark 6.

Just wait for solid state, if they ever come out then cold and hot conditions are no longer an issue! One company already claims to have a solid state battery that will only lose 1% capacity at negative 30 degrees C or plus 100 C! If true then that is the battery to wish for! Other claims 11c charging 100,000 cycles and 400wh per kg. But there is always a but, this battery may turn out to be a scam!

DF trashed the EV incentives. The BIG 3 seemed only to happy to throw in the towel when Rump changed the emission regs. The only remaining EV that Canada assembles is the monstrously huge, bulky, weird, anachronistic throw back Dodge Charger. A ridiculous EV no one is buying. XPeng P7 ! Sign me up.

GM did a great job engineering the Volt, we had a 2012 then traded for a 2017. The biggest problem we’ve had is GM had some issues with supplying parts during g the pandemic, and local dealers were slow to train techs, had to drive an hour to a different dealership.

My wife and I (both Canadians) toured Australia last September. We saw so many BYD. These vehicles look fantastic. I am so glad that these vehicles will be sold in Canada. The American car manufacturers will get a reality check.

Very happy that the ev shackles have been loosened. In Australia we don’t have any tariff on Chinese evs as we don’t have a car industry.However the prices you mentioned add state on road costs which is around another $3000

My uneducated guess is that BYD and Geely will be first. BYD because they are already established in Canada with their bus manufacturing and Geely with Volvo and Polestar dealerships that are also already here. I'm also thinking QC and BC will be first to get them as they are far more EV friendly than the other Provinces and QC would be a great test-bed with cold climate and road conditions (potholes, road salt, etc.) ON is a tough one. Major automobile manufacturing base and a very EV-opposed Premier so may put up a lot of resistance. Can't speak for any other Provinces but east coast may be more palatable for Chinese EV adoption than say AB or SK.

BYD Shark plugin, since you guys in North America love pick-up trucks. They sell in Mexco too. MG4 tops out at 145kw for charging for the 64 and 77kwh battery models these are nmc, not 200 as you said in the video. But still very good and charge like a boss on superchargers as they are 400v system. Bjorn has charging tests of the 64kwh model. MG4 has manual precondition button and always charges well at least in warmer climates here I usually hit top speed. We have another Chinese EV launching this year under a Japanese brand. Mazda 6e for around 55k AUD. This is actually made by Changan motors in China and comes with a Mazda badge. You guys will probably get this one.

比亚迪鲨鱼插混版肯定会来,毕竟北美这边的人都喜欢皮卡,这款车在墨西哥也有卖。名爵4的64和77千瓦时电池版,用的是三元锂电池,最高充电功率是145千瓦,不是你视频里说的200千瓦。但充电速度还是很快,因为是400伏系统,超充站充电特别给力。比约恩还做过64千瓦时版本的充电测试。名爵4还有电池手动预热按钮,充电表现一直很好,至少在这边温暖的气候里,我充电总能跑到最高功率。今年还有一款挂日本品牌的中国电动车要上市,就是马自达6e,售价约5万5千澳元。这款车其实是中国长安汽车生产的,只是贴了马自达的标,你们加拿大大概率也能买到。

Bought one of the first BYD ATTO3 in Australia, very satisfied with quality, reliability and value for money convinced me to traded up to the Seal when it became available. No faults with either car. The LFP Blade battery was a selling point for me. Safer, far longer potential life span and can charge to 100% without a worry.

Mexco!!! They are doing that in States close to Mexco. There is a BYD dealership just kms across the border. YouTube search BYD cars spotted in California. You can lease finance or buy outright from Mexco and get it licensed and registered in the US without any issues. I was thinking of going to Mexco to get one and drive it back to Canada but then.... OM G... Canada strikes deals with China and allows Chinese EVs to be sold here. I jumped off my chair!! So excited!!! So overwhelmed... I don't know which one to get. My mind is all over the place. Fridge in the car and FSD are the most important to me.

去墨西哥买啊!美国靠近墨西哥的几个州,很多人都这么干。边境几公里外就有比亚迪的门店,你去油管搜,能看到加州路上有很多比亚迪。在墨西哥可以租、可以贷款、也可以全款买,开回美国上牌登记完全没问题。我本来都打算去墨西哥买一辆开回加拿大了,结果突然发现,加拿大和中国签了协定,允许中国电动车在本土销售了。我当时直接从椅子上跳起来了,太激动了!现在反而挑花了眼,不知道选哪款。对我来说,车载冰箱和全自动驾驶功能是最重要的。
