Does India have too many public holidays?
The Bombay high court has refused to recognize public holidays as a fundamental right. The court suggested cutting down the number of listed holidays.
Are the courts going to cut down their summer holidays, winter holidays too ? or conveniently they ignore to talk about it ?
We are equally productive like Americans or British- INSPITE OF many holidays. Bombay High Court- why not focus on solving the thousands of pending cases?
Festivals are to be celebrated and in some festivals, we do fast and also do many rituals, that is why we need to declare festival a holiday. We need to understand the history of festival, how it is celebrated etc
I am a bank officer with a Govt Bank.
We have just 12 holidays excluding Sundays 2nd and 4th Saturdays.
(few holidays falls in Sunday and Saturdays).
We don't have vacations like the Courts and our work life is not of the worst in India.
So courts and media should use there valuable time for some things more fruitful.
Too many public holidays for the "GOVERNMENT" employees..... Private employees work seven days a week.
SC works for 193 days per year
High Courts work for 210 days per year)
The number of working hours per week for the ordinary public is still higher than many countries.
Dear Bombay Highcourt Why don’t you focus on solving your pending cases ?
What about the endless holidays the 'Milords' enjoy? Courts should abolish their own holidays first and get down to work. Lakhs of cases are pending because of laziness of Milords.
Not everyone has 2 weekends off. We work 6 days a week and most private company have their own holiday calender where most of these public holidays are not included. Like I had to work on New year's day as well.
In western countries, for corporate offices Saturday and Sunday holiday,grocery shops staff take any two days off per week,everyone in any field they take any two days off per week .or most of them work half day every day and Sunday off.
The HC court judge surely loves going to the office.
Person of every faith should be entitled for his or her certain number of religious days per year as holidays
Govts must ban Sunday holidays. In India there are almost 4-5 festive holidays in almost every month . We don't need Sundays. Just give us holiday on our festivals.
Court will only think for government employees. It's been years this holiday pattern going on.
But more important to discuss about private working schedule . Think seriously and and make some better law for private sector many are working 7 day or 6 days a week.. change it to 5 days a week as it is through out the world.
In Europe, people have to take mandatory annual leave of 2-3 weeks. This makes up for the less number of public holidays ...

The only holidays or vacations that need to be cut are of the judges and court employees
The court goes to vacation in summers for around 2 months.
Hindu festivals will be Target For cut down holidays.
Court should focus on clearing cases...for private company employees it is always 24x7... Western countries go for 2 weeks holiday in end of year...is it possible in India...
The most inefficient institution in the world is Indian judiciary . Yet "your honours" of India takes seasonal vacations. Even during the lockdown while working from home (online), judges took summer vacation . If judiciary wants to reduce holidays then go ahead , charity begins at home .
Dear Courts , Kindly stop being a bufoon and slove your pending cases first which takes years in a row then lay hands on our hard earned leaves
Public Holiday benefits are enjoyed mostly by Govt people. Barely 1% of the population.
And by the way, why courts get summer vacation, winter vacation????? In fact, they get puja vacation too. Why is it so?

In the US there are only 12 holidays, 11 holidays in France, and about the same in most of the West (much too little in comparison).
India needs to adopt corporate culture. Rotational shift n holidays for employees.
Public holidays are when I spend most money. It can be eating out or a movie or travel or visiting friends relatives or going to a palce of worship and donate some alms. Or maybe spend in hobbies.
Too many pending cour cases , why not put judges on overtime duty and cut short summer vacation and winter vacation of courts ?
Don't become like the rest of the world. Keep your holidays.
United states has 11 official holidays - correct but for last couple of years Diwali day is unoffiicial undeclared holiday
what about the 100s of holidays the courts enjoy, despite millions of pending cases
