Mumbai: Water supply suspended until further notice as heavy rains lash city
MUMBAI: As heavy rains lashed the metropolis on Sunday, the water supply throughout Mumbai was announced suspended until further notice.
It happened as a result of the incessant downpour which hit the power supply at the Bhandup water complex — the city's biggest water treatment plant.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed that the city's water supply will be restored only once the electricity is back at the Bhandup complex.
The civic body has asked Mumbaikars to use water sparingly until the supply is fully restored. It also asked citizens to boil water before consuming for maxmum safety.
Meanwhile, power outages have been reported in various parts of the city including Colaba, Bandra, Kurla, Malad, Kandivali, Ghatkopar, Mahalaxmi, Sewri, Wadala and Mumbai Central.
The downpour, which started after midnight, continued non-stop and led to waterlogging or flooding in several low-lying areas of Mumbai.
Also, as many as 25 persons have been killed in over 10 different incidents across the city as rains wreaked havoc on Sunday.
At least 17 persons were killed when a wall collapsed after a tree fell at Vashi Naka, New Bharat Nagar in the Chembur area around 1 am.
凌晨1点左右，在Chembur地区的新Bharat Nagar Vashi Naka，一棵大树倒下导致一堵墙倒塌，造成至少17人死亡。
In another incident, at least 3 people perished when a few hutments caved in the Suryanagar slums in Vikhroli east.
I am in Mumbai for last 25 years and same story repeats every year. Wall collapse, water logging, path holes and casualties. All parties in Maharashtra are responsible for this mess.
It's time for you to leave this dead city
Slums are main reason of water logging. Sign of corruption. After the rains, everything will be forgotten till next year.
Brother, who told you that slums are the main reasons for water logging..
Choked, slogged and blocked drainage lines are to main reason for it..
Until we make new drainage system, the situation will remain the same..
Maxmum city. Minimum quality of civic life.
water water every but not a drop to drink only for irrigating sugar cane fields and sugar mills
Even solar power cannot be generated during rains I guess. Rains will be there, there need to be some modern way to generate power and get water. Is the ministers living with cut water supply?
use of emergency back up generators.
And Shivsena was claiming of 105% cleaning of gutters and nallahas before onset of Monsoon .Throw out these corrupt goons in coming BMC elections in 2022.
Yes. They cleaned the storm water gutters and removed the muck and accumulated near the gutter. As that was not removed in time and due to rain all muck was back to drain. Typically "tax payers money down the drain ".
Haven't experienced such acute and catastrophic crisis in last 30 years , last year power cut this year water cut don't know what to expect next from MVA govt , is this a joke that capital city of most wealthiest state in the country with one of the highest taxes is facing such issues ?
It's time to leave this minimum city
Mumbai is wealthiest city being financial capital of India
this water treatment plant never got flooded before, which now?
Sir there was heavy flooding in europe and us, scores of people died, it can happen anywhere, let us improve our tolerance level
Stupid people now blaming CM Uddhav For Rains..
These are same uneducated andh bhakt
Yes, when it rains no water supply & when it doesn't, no water at all & that's the fate of the tax payer.
Leave Mumbai gutter
these jokers must have thought that since its raining there is no need for water supply
God please see that this plight of the PEOPLE of MUMBAI is sooner over and that all essential items of need of the PEOPLE of MUMBAI is made available sooner and Water Supply PRIORITY to each Household in spite of RAINS
Rains will be there, and should be there. but least the corporation can do is secure it's machinery which is important to supply water to most part of city. they only awake when the problem arises.
