as Firstpost explains how Ghana has launched a direct Cedi-to-Yuan payment mechanism, establishing a vital trade pathway with China that bypasses the traditional US dollar intermediary.

Announced by Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, the initiative uses China's Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS). Local businesses can now pay for imports straight from their domestic Cedi accounts, with Chinese exporters receiving payment directly in Yuan. Currently piloted by Stanbic Bank Ghana—with Ghana Commercial Bank preparing to launch a similar service—the system cuts processing times to next-day delivery while reducing expensive forex conversion fees. While legacy options like SWIFT and US dollar clearing remain fully functional, this alternative offers flexbility. Coupled with Beiing’s zero-tariff policy for 53 African nations, the payment system enhances trade efficiency, creating a two-way street for imports and Ghanaian exports alike. ​ @saintpeterspeters1053 Reason. Paying with your own currency serves u more. Eu and UK pounds do the same. Ghana does not have to aquire usd to buy from China. The Cedi is also a world currency.

It might as well be ditching the dollar. China is by far Ghana’s biggest bilateral trading partner. Other countries like Switzerland and the UK are countries that Ghana exports its products to, so the trade isn’t reciprocal the way it is with China. This is a huge thing and undoubtedly a big blow to the USD because Ghana is the 8th biggest economy in Africa.

Africa must create her own single currency to avoid the revloving door policy of being exploited by others. It was once the British Pounds used to exploit African nations. Today, it is the US dollar. Africa switching to the Chinese payment system isnt the solution because it is just another foreign payment system set up to exploit Africa in the next century. Once Africa creates her own payment system approved by the African Union, other nations will have to deal with Africa on equal terms. Africa isn't poor. Her resources and people continue to by exploited by foreign interests.
