Food security is an issue on many global leaders' plates. The climate phenomenon, El Niño, could impact food security worldwide by increasing the risk of floods, droughts, and heat waves. And the conflict raging over the Strait of Hormuz is impacting global supply chains. Grain exports have also been hit by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the US-Israeli war on Iran is stalling fertilizer shipments. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump's trade war and tariffs also hit food prices.

粮食安全是全球各国领导人案头的头等大事。厄尔尼诺气候现象可能增加洪水、干旱和热浪的风险，影响全球粮食安全。而霍尔木兹海峡通行受阻，正在冲击全球供应链。俄乌冲突也打击了粮食出口，美国-以色列对伊朗的战争正在拖延化肥运输。与此同时，美国总统特朗普的贸易战和关税也推高了食品价格。

中国人口占全球17%，但耕地仅占全球8%，中国山地多、还有大片荒漠，水资源分布不均，粮食生产先天条件有限。粮食安全被视作中国的国家安全头等大事。

中国严格守住 18 亿亩耕地红线，把主粮自给自足作为核心目标，补贴水稻生产，目前水稻产量基本能满足该国自己的需求。然而中国农业面临劳动力老龄化、气候变化引发旱灾、耕地污染退化等难题，因此通过良种改良、农业技术升级来提升粮食产量。同时建设国家粮食储备库，储备稻谷等粮食，做好应急储备

There is a very low probability of any one starving in China even in a crisis. If a war or a famine were to occur the government could order that the available soy beans stop being fed to pigs and instead be processed into tofu. There would be less pork, which is a desirable luxury food, but the people could get enough protien from the soy products. China has a long history of eating soy foods and the population would be ready to adapt to this change in an emergency. If meat were rationed they would not need imported soy and the domestically grown beans could feed the country.

I think is should be mandatory for every students & everyone else learn how to farm, because I don't know how. This should be a critical course for at least a few months understanding the crops, soil, agriculture needed for different seasons.
A plan to never run out of food is a great and noble ambition.
