The European Union has warned that growing involvement of Chinese firms in Vietnam’s 5G network could deter foreign investment.

EU officials raised concerns after Huawei and ZTE secured contracts alongside European firms, signalling a shift in Vietnam’s telecom strategy.

EU Commissioner Jozef Síkela cautioned that 5G is a “new battlefield,” warning that dependence on non-trusted vendors in strategic sectors could raise data security concerns.

He added that if investors doubt the security of their data, they may avoid investing, potentially impacting Vietnam’s growth, which relies heavily on foreign capital.

欧盟发出警告称，中国企业在越南5G网络领域的参与度不断提升，可能会吓退外国投资。

在华为、中兴与欧洲企业共同获得相关合同后，欧盟官员对此表示担忧，这一迹象表明越南的电信战略正在发生转变。

欧盟委员约瑟夫·西凯拉提醒道，5G是一处“新战场”，并警告称在战略领域依赖不可信供应商，可能引发数据安全方面的担忧。

他还表示，如果投资者对自身数据安全心存疑虑，就可能放弃投资，这或将影响越南的经济增长——而越南经济高度依赖外资。

Even the coastal part of Kenya had Chinese traders 700 years ago, who traded and decided to marry local women at the coasts. The problem with western kind of politics is dominance and servitude. The US should be able to dissect Huawei's equipment and decipher if there are any sorts of software installed that could potentially be used for espionage.
