We usually think of places like Tokyo, Dubai and Seoul, as cities of the future. But there’s one city in China that is quietly building that future right now — and somehow, most people in the West barely know about it.

Just a few decades ago, Shenzhen was little more than a small fishing town sitting next to Hong Kong. Are you sure you want to go there in the summer? It'll be 34 degrees Celsius & humid outdoor! Most Chinese cities along the eastern and southern coast are very hot in the summer. If you must visit China in summer, I suggest the Yunnan or Guizhou province, the high-altitude cities are much cooler.

Tokyo was called the city of the future in 2000, but it remains forever frozen in that year. If you visit Tokyo 26 years later, it will be exactly the same as it was in 2000. Seoul, South Korea, is more like a small city in China.

So, Shenzhen has a few dozen kiosks, so the drone technology is still not widely used. What's more impressive to me is the routes being added, as low-altitude regulations are going to be very important in the near future. But I think Shanghai also has some drone kiosks, and they use drones in remote villages too, which I think is very nice for the people living there. With regards to the Weixn Palm Payment system, personally I find it very dangerous. Yes, it's safe for the shopkeeper since it uses infrared light to scan vein patterns under the skin. This is nearly impossible to spoof with a photo or a "fake" hand because it requires。However, if a hacker manages to steal a database of palm templates, you cannot "reset" your palm the way you would a password or a credit card number. Once that biometric data is out, it is compromised for life. These systems often use centralised databases to allow you to pay e.g. at any kiosk in the city. This creates a "honeypot" that is highly attractive to sophisticated hackers.

深圳只有几十个无人机站点，技术还没普及。更让我震撼的是航线在增加，低空管控未来会很重要。上海也有无人机站点，偏远农村也在用，对当地人很方便。至于微信掌纹支付，我个人觉得很危险。它用红外扫描皮下掌纹，对商家很安全，照片或假手根本没法伪造，必须有活体血流。但一旦黑客偷走掌纹数据库，你没法像改密码或银行卡号那样重置掌纹。生物信息一旦泄露，一辈子都有风险。这类系统用集中数据库，方便全城通用，反而成了黑客眼中的肥肉。
