Roads in UP will be better than US before 2024: Nitin Gadkari
LUCKNOW: During the inaugural session of the 81st annual session of Indian Road Congress (IRC) that took place at Indira Gandhi Pratisthan of Lucknow on Saturday, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari announced projects worth Rs 8,000 crore for Uttar Pradesh. He said that the roads of Uttar Pradesh have to be made better than the United States before 2024. "For this, the Modi government is going to approve Rs 5 lakh crore for UP in the coming days," he said.
Listing down his expectations from the Yogi Adityanath government, Gadkari asked the state government to introduce electric double-decker air-conditioned buses for urban transportation in the state.
To bring down environmental pollution and carbon emissions, Gadkari urged Yogi to ensure that use of diesel and petrol gets phased out in UP in a gradual manner. "For development of any region and to create employment, providing infrastructure is the investments. Our PM has a vision to make India the most powerful economy and good infrastructure is going to be required to do so," he said.
Pointing out that the road and civil infrastructure works are adding up to 40% of the air pollution, Gadkari pointed out that UP needs to do more apart from producing the largest amount of ethanol in the country. “The stubble generated due to farming can be recycled to produce bitumen. Also discarded and wasted powder of the tyres can be utilised to produce bitumen. UP also needs to follow the London model for providing transportation in the urban areas,” said Gadkari.
LUCKNOW:The minister said that all of the state's bus stations will be revamped on a PPP basis in cooperation with NHAI. The first phase will see 25 stations upgraded. Gadkari said that Uttar Pradesh will soon get the Gorakhpur-Siliguri, Varanasi-Kolkata and GorakhpurBareilly corridor, which would be a part of Bharatmala Project-2. The Union minister also announced that PratapgarhSultanpur-Ayodhya State Highway will be widened while 12 rail overhead bridges will be built in Uttar Pradesh at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore.
If you roads can become better than Germany, that says something. Being better than US at this time is no big deal. I guess their infrastructure is crumbling and a trillion dollars is required to even just upkeep it.
Why India is comparing roads and other things with US when they can not match most of things.
The benchmark for good roads is Germany not the USA.
In any other context a person who said something like this would be involuntarily remanded for a psychological examination, and he would probably be deemed insane.

Air Commodore S S Saxena VSM
please choose to travel without notice and entourage to know ground reality.....pot holes and bumps on roads....cows....goats.....unruly traffic.....
Nitin Gadkari.......Stop this non sense and stop comparing indian roads with US. it is beyond your Imagination, they have the better system of road development and maintaining it.,I challenge you & your statement, you will not be doing anything but only fooling peoeple,In past you have made many such promises before 2019 election.
This is too much to digest.
Wrong choice for comparison. US road infrastructure is the worst today. If anything develop road infrastructure like the Chinese, they have built it across the length and breadth of the nation. Select the right benchmark !
Gadkariji UP is not the only state in the country,at please, please fix the pot holes in the whole nation’s roads where innocent people are getting injured and dying too.
Better roads means gas prices at stations will go higher, or else how can the government fund these ambitious projects when the tax payers block is ridiculously small.
First come to Pune and see the roads condition. They are not even like US which was 75 years ago.
first reduce the cost of fuel from rs 100 to rs 60, then people will use the roads to drive vehicles, otherwise cattle will use the roads.

How about Gurgaon? Leave aside international standards…when will gurgaon get roads??
A tall claim made by Gadkari Ji. Please evaluate the previous road works undertaken with the Purvanchal Expressway performance in particular before making a laughing stock of the Govt and your poor performance.
Why this fascination with US comparison from these incumbent politicians? Probably because it can never be verified
