Billionaire Gautam Adani briefly becomes world's second richest person
NEW DELHI: Indian tycoon Gautam Adani (60) on Friday briefly became the second richest person in the world after Tesla's Elon Musk.
According to Forbes real-time billionaire list, Adani went past Amazon's Jeff Bezos to claim the second spot earlier today.
He was then locked in a close contest with French businessman Bernard Arnault for the second spot. As per the current list, Arnault has gone past Adani again to settle at the second position.
Adani's fortune, which touched over $155 billion earlier today, came down to $152 billion with sensex plunging nearly 1,000 points in intraday trade.
Adani, whose business empire extends from infrastructure to airports management and FMCG to cements, remains a strong contender to reclaim the second spot.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk continues to be the world's richest person with a net worth of $273.5 billion.
The main promoter of the Ahmedabad-headquartered group that carries his family name, Adani is the first Indian (and Asian) to break into the top 3 list.
In a little over two and half years, Gautam Adani's wealth has galloped over 13 times. In January 2020, his net worth was about $10 billion. In Indian currency, Adani's current net worth translates to over Rs 12 lakh crore.
In 1988, Adani set up Adani Enterprises (then Adani Exports) to start a commodities trading business. Soon he set up Mundra port for captive export-import operations. Within a decade it also emerged as the biggest coal trading company in the country and one of India's largest foreign exchange earners.
He is true representer of India and Indians. Since he is one of richest that means most of Indians are rich....
Good to see 2 Indians in Top 10. Bill Gates still in Top 10. More better if more Indians are self sufficient and not below poverty line.
Go Adani!!Conquer the world!! Thank you for putting India's name on that list.
That's good news. This means BJP will now have more money to buy MLAs and trouble elected state governments.
Whereas ordinary people deliver extra ordinary results abroad, extra ordinary people in India find it difficult to deliver even ordinary results because of lack of integrity, jealousy,
As long as Adani has not evaded any tax, why should we hate him? He has taken loan and his firms are paying loans within time, none of them are defaulting. We Indians have appreciated Bill Gates throughout our life but we have our own entrepreneurs like Adani, Ambani.
The reason why the BJP IT cell has to pay so many unemployed commentators is because most of the bhakts have been disillusioned by the BJP, and are now no longer andhbhakts, and do not make favouring comments anymore ,nor will they vote for the BJP

All that wealth he possesses till today has been white after scrutiny of all that very important financial monitoring department of the country. Now he has taken INDIA's good name to world's top most position. Well done.
Disturbing and alarming Fact is that NONE of his Companies are in Profit. Also his debt burden is increasing rapidly.
Do you know the DEBT oF USA : some 7 to 10 trillion dollars. China holds 2.3 T, Japan 1.8 T, SAudi 1.9 T, India around 200 billion and other countries smaller anounts of US government’s Treasury securities (known shortly as USTC).
With his debt rising, he also rises in the world rich list. May be very soon, he will be # 2 for a longer time; and who knows might beat Elon Mask too! Only ho that his debt do not go out of control, crushing the Indian institutions and dramatically impacting Indian markets.

But it would have been bill gates the richest if he had not donated his wealth, adani is a typical gujju, no respect at all and also if he pays his loan he will be hardly left with any money

Gates donated after he retired. In his active career he did no give much. Adani has yet to retire and then the philanthropy kicks in. Thus is human nature
Gates donated half his wealth in late 90s, incase you want to know
In next 5 years of BJP government he will become richest in the world
