The island was indeed beautiful but each place I visit here looks so mesmerizing. I have so many pictures that I can post a blog on China everyday but sadly I am supposed to be working here. Now the spring is coming again and there so many gardens around here even..what to do, Sulekha doesn't pay and no one acknowledges my work and my worth at least :(

Good question Prakash Ji,
You cannot bring your own agarbatees ( incense sticks) but you can buy those at the gate. On way there are kiosks where from you can buy cold drinks, water and snacks and at places there are clustered shops where from you can buy artifacts and momentoes, souvenirs and memorabilia but they are all severely regulated so as there is no littering around. As far as prasad is concerned, I haven't seen them offering any, however flowers one can buy at the entrance to the temple and "chadawa" or food for alms and donations can be given at regular reception windows and receipts recieved. The coins and money like in India can be put in the chests placed before the deities.

Amazing tour I had through your narration and the accompanyig photographs.
It has really changed my perception of China which is projected as a re gionless co unist country populated with labour class people all over..
Prayer actually has to be done silently unlike the cacaphony we create in India on every re gious function. I also liked the quiet and serene ambience surrounding the tourist spot.
No outward show of re giosity was truly zing.

Before I came here, I knew little about China and now I think what we all know about China is indeed little. All lies and misconceptions perpetrated by the scheming west and hollered by our good for nothing leaders. The truth is far from it. The people are gentle, shy, respectful, loving. They love their children, care for their parents, are down to earth, happy, simple and hardworking. The progress here is indeed showing, glittering to put it mildly and it is a result of sheer hard work, good governance, accountability and efficient and strict, no nonsense justice sy em.

Indeed, the temples, landsca, and surroundings are beautiful and well-tended. However, the absence of solo monks or poor people makes the place look like a tourist-trap Disneyland version of Buddhism rather than real Buddhism. It appears to me that traditional Chinese aacy, co sm, and modern commercial tourism have all placed their stamp on Putuo. What would make the scene more complete would be to place statues of and Bill Gates alongside the Buddha.

Monks are there but all monks are confined to the temples and monasteries practicing re gion and karate. They have no roll to play in po itics and nation building. Though the place is being maintained as a tourist spot, still the sanctity of the place is being re giously maintained. Surprisingly beggars are hard to see anywhere, I don't know what they have done with them or if they have done away with them. :) Another thing surprising is that you don't find any statues of anywhere and they don't credit him of their present economic prosperity. Even though the has a stronghold on the nation the country doesn't wear the grey gloom of co sm which was so obvious in the East block countries when I visited those before the fall of the Block.

Captivating pictures! Could sense the peacefulness in some of those pics. Must be a great place to visit. I agree how the chinese have kept everything so orderly. Even the ferry seems so clean and tidy. How was the weather there in July?
