china is living in the future - and it's all banned in america.

I visited the most advanced tech megacity in China, Shenzhen - to see the tech products & brands that aren't available in north america, as well as visited some of the most incredible tech malls

spacecowboy4545
So China is basically living in the Y2K futurism aesthetic we were promised as kids but never got? Time to go visit

America be like "walkable cities? Bullet trains? Third spaces? Electric cars? No no no, ExxonMobil would NEVER be able to profit off of that! Strip malls, drive thru chains, and sprawl for everyone! No exceptions!"

America is the only country so rich with highest gold reserves and expensive living standards while also their citizens pay 500$ for a fucking inhaler without insurance.

UrbnXplr
Dude, China advancement in the past 50 years is unprecedented. Crazy!

walkertongdee
The future has been cancelled in America.

I am Malaysian who frequent SZ..
SZ GOT 1320 parks!! Absolute beautiful and clean parks! YES, 1320! One thoousand three hundred and twenty parks!

syarizansulaiman6554
i been to Shenzhen early February, is 30 years ahead from my country

happydude911
They're not living in the future.
They are living in the present when a government embraces science and technology and not making the citizens focus on trans bathrooms to distract them from their fleecing and corruption.

freemagicfun
China is living in the present. The Western world is clinging to the past. They are scared of actual competition. The new American motto: "If you can't beat 'em, ban 'em."

IVDANAS
The USA is entering its own Middle Ages: obscurantism, denial os science and religious fanaticism

When China was just copying, not innovative, and churned out cheap trash, the US/West loved them. Now that China has caught up or surpassed US/Western products they're a economic and national security threat and everything they do that exceeds them is a straight ban. Free market economy here boys.

W4ngy0ng
It's not even that they turned our cheap trash, Western markets ONLY purchased cheap crap because they knew their citizens would buy it at an upmarked price China has been making cheap stuff AND high quality stuff for years, that isn't what changed!

weasel6660
In Huaqiangbei, you can easily find shops that repair phones, iPads and laptops at a very reasonable cost. They are super efficient as well!

its like a different world

The west : but something something privacy something something

braneded1773
We don't even have that anymore with all this chat control this age verification that

Seems like I need to visit China

ngknm_14
Guys, this is FREAKING WILD! I knew China is in a Cyberpunk already but this is insane. Germany looks like a village compared to China now.

ngknm_14
@chrischou9068 Of course, I understand what you mean but now you can find a huge gap between the largest well known cities and small towns/villages in many countries. In case with China the gap in development just goes on a completely different level that's why it's so prominent.
My point was that what we can see as the best, the most advanced and modern examples of cities development is mind blowing. That's a very very high bar. And that's why it's Cyberpunk. The scale, the looks, the tech behind. And the other top 20 or 50 wealthiest and most developed countries in the world don't come even close to that level.
So it's not like I'm overlooking the way how the rural or not so well known China looks. I'm really impressed by what can be achieved.
Peace!

petermavrenski6602
China has many villages, you just need to open your eyes and walk a few blocks lol I am still waiting for real 5g.

andrewsuryali8540
Shenzhen is actually a total disappointment for cyberpunk. It's way too clean and safe. In a cyberpunk setting, Shenzhen is basically where all the evil corpo elites would be living and where the protagonists would go show up and brrrrrrttt!!! their way through around chapter 12

predragmandusic
China for real living in a future.

OverRevy
China is far from perfect, but if you look at the current state of the rest of the world rn.
They kinda doing good.

CHKDG8
This is just the tip of the iceberg, too. We are so far behind in the U.S. that, no matter how you vote, we're not coming anywhere close to what you're seeing coming out of China. They're surpassing us in almost every aspect of life. The only thing they're missing is homegrown semiconductor production, which they're already working on. Once they reach parity with the U.S., it's over.

RaytheonNublinski
The haters will say China has poor people so this doesn’t count. Even though much of America is also poor, but they somehow don’t think that should count against us. People hate on China because they were told to hate on China. And they were told to because America is a failing country and the people in charge of it are trying to convince us that it’s not. But we are failing and falling behind bigly, let me tell you. It’s yuge, the failing. Many people don’t know that.

ShadowRealmSteve
Easy to see why the USA is so threatened and falling behind China in terms of technology in so many ways. Very interesting video and good job with the presentation and B roll of all the beautiful architecture. I hope to visit myself one day.

US needs blue lights to indicate self driving engaged too

janusli8820
But China are banning these cyan lights for now because legally speaking China doesn't allow autonomous driving and all the cars on the roads are just driving assistance

Most Western countries can't even resolve basic public safety issues, let alone anything else.

reyluna0
God i wanna live in that city, like genuinely live.

lambolj
In North America you get human killing data centers, flock cameras, and a new Middle East war

slowanddeliberate6893
China has had cameras for a long time already.

lambolj
@slowanddeliberate6893 they also got high speed rail and no wars

Sandslash19
Everything looks so clean

Will travel to shenzhen in September already hyped up

LuminNeos
As someone born in Shenzhen and later grew up near Toronto, I'm glad a fellow Canadian like you enjoyed visiting my hometown so much. It truly is a paragon of China's insane progress in technology, economy, and humanitarian efforts in the past 3-4 decades, and I'm immensely proud of that. I still go back several times a year and it surprises me in pleasant ways every single time. Hope you'll visit again soon and explore some of the other amazing places in China, you won't be disappointed! :)

Han-m7b6k
If you go to one of the richest regions in America, it's no different from what you see in this video. China is a huge country where wealth gap is so big and only privileged can be successful. The only reason you can see many rich people in china is because of population. Go see other regions in china.

dimkodamko
I just love how people somehow think it really is that better in western world than in China. Yes, they don't seem to care abt things we do, but you cannot say they aren't technologically superior to us.

vafon3453
Crazy to think that few decades ago, one of the most prosperous city at the time, Hong Kong was right next to it, and now ShenZhen is almost surpassing HK.

xerejuneseve6333
They are not limited by stupid regulations like the EU, progress can continue.

Not banned in America, banned in USA. Allowed in South America, central America, most of North America

jackins2000
I'm afraid of paradises like these shop districts, because I woudn't come home for a month, and I don't have time for it. Gotta work.

The telepromter function in this glasses would be so helpful for social contents. China is truly the first world in 2026 and living in 2099!

CesareRey
“It’s a really big drone that can carry people inside” so a helicopter. they’re building helicopters.

Mystic_Mana
Reading some of these comments you just have to wonder, is it that some Americans are completely brainwashed or they just don’t want to accept that China is ahead of US in terms of consumer tech

b3naqua
comparing all that futuristic stuff to the endless sad farty decaying strip mall landscape of the US gives me the ick

illnoct
They're so far in the future that they rank 78th globally on the Human Development Index!

drzhanga
yea according to these made-up ranks by the same bunch of people, China Airforce ranks AFTER India at Number 8, despite China's export model of the shittiest fighter jet shooting down 6 of India's jets, including Europe's best fighter jets newly purchased by India.
What kind of idiots trust these ranks? lmao

sanderschat
US of A is a joke that it is still thinking that it is the greatest country in the world.

I am a Canadian expat living just an hour's drive west of Shenzhen which is a city of 18 million people. With about 450 subway stations, one could pretty much get to anywhere in this city without any trouble. My plan is to bring my folding bike with me so I could explore the really nice parks via the bike lane systems throughout the City

undulatingseaoflife
Hey what's it like living in China as an expat? Do you have language issues? Any crazy cultural differences that effect your everyday life? What does your day-to-day look like?
