No one in China called American combat aircraft boondonggle until F-35 went into production, and then congress cut production targets, and turned into a ugly and public political fight. Some time in or after mid-00 I think. No one in China (esp. anyone close to the Co unist Party) thought that Chinese advanced weaponry is even competitive with the West until maybe five years ago.

The concern about engine development seems to forget that these have been in development for exsting 5th gen platforms including test flights on the F-35 before the USAF moved to another option. Regardless, they aren't starting form scratch on these engines.

Large size does not necessarily mean low maneuverability. Look at the SU-35, it is a large aircraft and is extremely agile. Depending on what roll the United States wants the new fighter to fill will determine the final design. I think it will be an amazing aircraft and the fact that so little is known about it, highlights the possible revolutionary design specs. In addition, the Unites States have been working on this new engine for a while now and most likely will be ready intime to install in this new jet.

You forgot to mention Boeing's complete disaster that was the Starliner, the supposed competitor to SpaceX's Dragon. That program has basically been shelved due to how much money Boeing was losing on that program.
