Solar concentrated power generation is actually more expensive than regular photovoltaic cells that convert solar directly into electricity. The footage is mixed in here, but the extra cost and maintenance of the rotating stations and turbines that convert steam to electricity is more complex than just straight up solar to electricity. I'm guessing the majority of solar farms are just vast (boring) solar panels. This reporting doesn't mention it, but it does make more interesting footage to show.

Last year alone they added 434GW of renewable energy , that’s the equivalent of 270 large nuclear reactors! In 5-10 yrs their reliance on fossil fuels will diminish significantly . And their pollution will be even lower.

In Canada, we build giant machines too. Then we fly people up north to operate them to dig up 2 tonnes of oily dirt which we process to get a barrel of oil, which we then refine to get about enough gasoline to fill a family SUV, which will burn it in about a week. Don’t worry about the toxc sludge that we are left with after processing those 2 tonnes of oily dirt, just come back for more next week. One hour to generate one family’s electricity for 42 years…. Obviously there’s a storage issue with the analogy but still, what an amazing concept to build an energy system that isn’t analogous to Sisyphus’s punishment. And somehow our politicians think there’s long term export potential worth subsidizing pipelines…. Despite the rest of the world finding a way out of the endless energy resource extraction search.
