Honestly, Pakistan’s position in these deals was strengthened a lot by what happened on the Indian side. The downing of multiple jets and the repeated issues with Tejas played a big role in giving Pakistan the leverage it needed to back up its claims. Thank you India

90% of the jet is chinese(Chengdu J-7 (which itself was based on the Soviet MiG-21), and the engine is russian. With the Block III, there has been a transition toward the Chinese WS-13 (Taishan) engine. Avionics, flight control systems are 100% chinese When you do 5% of value add, you get only a lil more than that on the market. Pakistan handles the final assembly and flight testing only. Pak experts Ahmad & Irfan aftab know this very well, yet they chose to ignore this.

JF-17 is actually a decent jet if Pakistan can provide a number of them. It can be used to plug the gaps that a lot of the Global South needed to fill in their air power. I think most powers in here already figured out that depending on the U.S too much is dangerous and expensive to purchase and even more expensive on maintenance, Russia is too far (and also expensive both on purchase and maintenance), European jets are the same as Russia but they also wants political meddling in their client's country, while China is too close for comfort. There is a place for a decent enough jet that can fill the role for air combat that didnt come from any of these superpower, at least not directly and didnt ask too much question about their internal political policies. Personally i would rather have my country figuring out how to create a fighter jet on our own but this will do.

只要巴基斯坦能稳定供货，枭龙其实是款不错的战机。能填补广大发展中国家的空中力量缺口。大家都明白，过度依赖美国风险高、买着贵、维护更贵；俄罗斯太远，成本也高；欧洲战机一样贵，还爱干涉内政；中国又太近。所以需要一款够用、不直接来自超级大国、不干涉内政的战机。我当然希望本国自研，但枭龙也够用。
