Russia has made one of its boldest defence pitches to India in years - offering full licensed production of the Su-57 fifth-generation stealth fighter inside India, along with deep and unrestricted technology transfer. This unprecedented proposal comes just days before President Vladimir Putin arrives in Delhi for a high-stakes summit expected to shape the future of India-Russia defence ties.

The Russian offer includes sensitive fifth-generation technologies such as stealth composites, advanced engines, infrared optics, AESA radar systems, artificial-intelligence-based avionics, and next-gen air-to-air weaponry. Moscow emphasises that no Western nation is willing to transfer such systems without political conditions or sanction risks.

This comes at a time when India is defining its future fighter roadmap - from AMCA to next-gen imports. High-level diplomatic engagement is already underway: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Putin and Lavrov in Moscow, while Nikolai Patrushev held strategic talks with Prime Minister Modi.

As Putin prepares for his India visit, the Su-57 pitch could become the most consequential defence decision India faces this decade.

We better say yes to this. This is a great deal. This will help AMCA production and also supplement Su-Mk1 and Rafale squadrons. Su-57 has good radars and also insane maneuvarability, i don't think you can shoot it down if it's flown by an ace. It can do insane tricks. Be mindful that it's 4.5 gen and not 5th gen. Common sense tells that the opportunity should not be wasted away. There won't be any ten year wait. The AMCA may be a 6th Gen fighter.
