China's stealth fighter program, centered on the Chengdu J-20 Mighty Dragon, has faced accusations of relying on stolen technology to achieve its advanced capabilities. The J-20, a fifth-generation jet designed for air superiority, entered service in 2017, boasting features like radar-absorbent materials and low-observability design.

The J-20's angular fuselage, canards, and diverterless supersonic inlets resemble aspects of the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.  Edward Snowden's 2015 leaks further revealed that Chinese hackers accessed 50 terabytes of F-35 data, influencing the J-20's electro-optical targeting system and engine cooling techniques.

Additionally, Russia has accused China of copying elements from the MiG 1.44 prototype, particularly in the J-20's tail design, possibly acquired during Russia's post-Soviet economic struggles. While China insists the J-20 is indigenous, its reliance on Russian AL-31F engines, despite develo WS-10C and WS-15 engines, suggests limitations in native technology. These allegations highlight ongoing concerns about global aerospace espionage.

It is a convergence of design. For example bows and arrows looked pretty well the same from primitive isolated societies. Physical laws converges designs. The J20 uses firward canards which the F35 and F22 do not have. This alone makes it a totally different aerodynamics and control design.
