Trade war reignites: Trump announces tech export limits, new 100% tariff on Chinese goods; impact from November 1 or sooner

US President Donald Trump on Friday announced further 100 per cent tariffs on Chinese products from November 1 after China restricted exports of rare earth minerals.

"Based on the fact that China has taken this unprecedented position... the United States of America will impose a Tariff of 100% on China, over and above any Tariff that they are currently paying," Trump said on Truth Social.

This comes soon after Trump’s previous post in which he called China’s restrictions “very hostile” and criticised the country for sending letters to nations worldwide outlining controls on “each and every element of production having to do with Rare Earths.” He said, “There is no way that China should be allowed to hold the World 'captive.'”

Trump also addressed his plans to meet Chinese President at the AsiaPacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit later this month in South Korea. On being asked if the meeting had been cancelled, he said, "No, I haven't cancelled. But I don't know that we're going to have it. I'll be there regardless... They hit the world with something... it was shocking... Out of the blue, they came up with this whole importexport concept, and nobody knew anything about it.

在中国限制稀土出口后，美国总统唐纳德·特朗普于周五宣布，自11月1日起，进一步对中国产品加征100%关税。

特朗普还谈及了他计划本月晚些时候在韩国举行的亚太经合组织（APEC）峰会期间与中国国家领导人会面的事宜。当被问及会面是否已取消时，他表示：“没有，我没取消。但我不确定我们是否会举行这次会面。不管怎样，我都会去（韩国）……他们（中国）给了世界一个措手不及……这太令人震惊了……他们突然就推出了这套进出口管控方案，之前没人知道半点消息。”
