US President Donald Trump has announced a 100% tariff on branded and patented pharmaceutical products from India, set to take effect from October 1st. This measure is expected to impact approxmately one billion dollars worth of Indian pharma exports. The United States is the largest single market for Indian pharmaceuticals, accounting for about a third of the country's total pharma exports. While the shipments are predominantly generic drugs, the new tariffs target the branded and patented sector. Companies with manufacturing plants under construction in the US will be exempt. The move is viewed as a potential "arm twisting tactic by the Washington" to encourage domestic manufacturing. In anticipation, Indian export bodies have already begun exploring market diversification into Latin America and Africa.

Do you even bother to read the tweets/text/notification? The read out mentions branded and patented pharma products and Indian pharma companies for most of the part export generic products. This tarriff is mainly aimed at Canada n Europe where US pharma companies are based and would not impact india much as of now. So please do responsible journalism.
