Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva inaugurates a new Chinese automaker GWM’s plant in State of São Paulo on Friday.

Lula said Brazil will always keep its doors open to global investors and welcomed foreign companies to do business in the country. He also blasted Washington’s new 50% tariffs on Brazilian goods, calling them “unnecessary trade barriers” and “lies” about US trade losses.

He praised Chinese investment as vital for Brazil’s growth. The new plant is expected to build up to 50,000 vehicles a year, export across Latin America, and create more than 2,000 jobs.

Earlier this month, Brazil filed a WTO complaint against US tariff hikes, which took effect August 6.

巴西总统卢拉·达席尔瓦于周五为中国汽车制造商长城汽车在圣保罗州的新工厂举行了落成仪式。

卢拉表示，巴西始终向全球投资者敞开大门，并欢迎外国企业在巴西开展业务。他还痛批美国对巴西商品加征50%新关税的做法，称其为“不必要的贸易壁垒”，并指责所谓美国在贸易中受损的说法是“谎言”。

他盛赞中国投资对巴西经济增长至关重要。这座新工厂预计每年可生产多达5万辆汽车，产品将出口至拉丁美洲各地，并创造2000多个就业岗位。

本月早些时候，巴西已就美国提高关税一事向世界贸易组织提起诉讼，这些关税于8月6日正式生效。

Europe is not. They’re just protecting their industry from the chinese’s subsidies making BYD artificially cheap. European companies should compete with Chinese companies, NOT the chinese. As for the USA, they should have done what the EU did. Which would have benefited the industrial working class because BYD has no problem making their products in that market. This would have forced US automakers to compete, while still giving them a chance despite BYD’s subsidies.
