I’m an Indian who is fairly conversationally fluent in Mandarin. Just over the last few months, I kept practising everyday in Chicago’s Chinatown (my university is in Chicago) with native Chinese speakers at restaurants, and they’re all always so surprised and cheerful about it. Just by speaking a bit of Chinese, I managed to make over 300 Chinese friends in a few months both online and offline! Chinese people are always super helpful and kind when they see you trying to speak their language, even if it is only basic. Indian keep trying to compare themselves with China but you can't compare because China is east Asia and confucian culture, there is so different in cultures and traditions. So try to understand one another, but don't judge and compare. The Chinese themselves never say they are better or telling other countries to follow them.

We Indians are always “impressed” by things we see in a foreign country. Do we ever appreciate and mention about things in India? We take them for granted because it is in India. I live in the US and recently visited I India. Thoroughly impressed ( and I grew up in India). I have had people who REFUSED a tip and this was at various places in India. Friendly and helpful people; clean streets considering our size and available resources. For once appreciate what you have and who you are. You have done a good job and have worked hard. People overseas know we are hard and intelligent. Be proud of yourself and be proud of India!
