MiG-21 a flying coffin? 'Retire the aircraft before 2025', BJD MP's SOS to Rajnath
BJD MP Amar Patnaik has written to Defence minister Rajnath Singh urging the go nment to advance the phasing out plan for MiG-21s - at the centre of a debate over how safe the planes are - and retire the ageing aircraft in the Indian Air Force combat fleet at the earliest. The BJD lawmaker’s demand comes on the back of a fatal crash of a MiG-21 on July 28 near Barmer in which two fighter pilots were killed, reigniting the debate over the airworthiness of the aircraft based on a decades-old design.
It's not about ruling or opposition parties. It's all about our Brave heart soldiers.
If any po iticians feeling MIG-21 is safe to fly, let ask them to travel with same
We inducted MIG 21 in 1960s. How can we still make our fighter pilots fly that? Would we send our kids in 1960 made passenger aeroplane or atleast in a 1960 made school bus?
MIGs were a great help for us in the past, but now almost all countries have retired it. How can we blame the fighter jet for our irresponsibility?
Govt should take this issue seriously...
This flying coffin has confined many of our Able brave soldiers . Early retirement is need of the hour for our brave Indian soldiers .
This issue should be the first priority of the go nment now.
We should not loose any of our fighter pilots. They are the only source for us to save the entire country. They are costlier than each figter plane.
We can't afford to lose anymore precious life and expert pilots anymore
Indian airforce cares more about mig21 bisons than the lives of it's young brave pilots.Just imagine the stone heart of the management.sad.
India should have inducted Tejas in place of Mig 21s instead of building statues and new parliament. The total cost of these expenditures was more than Inr 5000cr.
Its tough because Air Force is already short of minimum req. squadrons and with the sudden retirement of entire mig 21s Air Force would become heavily vulnerable..
MIG21 should be used for po iticians for ion campaigns, not for our soldiers
Flying coffin must be discontinued as soon as possible it has given huge loss to Defence of the nation by taking life of many tnted Indian Pilot
When the go nment knows tht this is such a disastrous aircraft, y r they still letting the IAF use them. What? They want more casualties??
IAF is really weak as compared to other military powers. Sad but true
Our soldiers value is not a joke . Who will take responsibility
50% mig-21s crashed since purchase.
I Think they retire migs by the end of last plane crash.
The only way to retire Migs by 2025 is to order more Tejas. Are the MP's willing to spend money for safety or not?
Yeah.. these should be in museums but unfortunately we are still flying them and sacrificing the precious lives of our brave pilots.
Very slow in getting fighter aircrafts... we suppose to have 52 squadrons but we have only 37 now... if war broke out, we will be in trouble to dominate our own air space.
All problems are due to carelessness of Air force , if they had demanded Rafael in 2010 , then 2019 Abhindan could had return safely. Now modi Aatmanirvar scheme , there mind also opening
Almost 60 years in still in use! Omg... we dump our cars after 20 years even. If you fly these jets to the border, the chinese would be getting heart attacks
Thanks to Congress and its co ption ecosy em these planes could not be put out of service. Fortunately, Modi is working hard to bridge the gap for the air force.
A diesel SUV can't be driven beyond 10 years but mig 21 is flying since 60s.

Yes do it immediately before more life lost. Rafale, Su-30MKI, Mig-29 and Mirage 2000 are enough for next 3 years.
Aaryan tejaswi Bhargav
It's not easy these jets are v expensive

Retire the Mig21 early if possible.
As a Pakistani I want Indian air force to handover MIG 21 jet fighters to Pakistan as it will be a great gesture for both of our go nment to improve our relationship in good defence sector
This is why I don't prefer Russian wons at all. They are substandard in quality. Cher CANNOT make it better. Even T-72 tanks are substandard in quality.

Question is India ready with replacements for mig 21 in the air force
The cold one
finally a good issue raised by opposition..
