This week, researchers in Beiing turned on a 6G trial network that hit 1 terabit per second, the exact data rate the International Telecommunication Union identified as the threshold required for real time holographic communication. That is roughly 4 million times more data than a standard video call uses. The same technology that delivered that number is what makes it possible to transmit a full 3-dimensional human presence through the air and reconstruct it on the other side with zero delay. But the speed is only part of the story. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved the world's first dedicated 6G field testing spectrum on May 8, 2026. In June, it launched a joint ministry provincial pilot program integrating AI, satellite internet, and sensing technologies. And China Mobile now serves as lead rapporteur for the first formal 6G scenario standardization project at 3GPP, the global body that writes the rules every carrier and chipmaker on Earth must follow.

The country that writes the 6G standard does not just get faster networks. It decides what 6G is allowed to do, which companies can build equipment for it, and who collects royalty payments on every 6G chip shipped anywhere on Earth for the next 30 years. China already holds 40% of all global 6G patent filings before a single commercial network has been turned on. When you combine 6G with BeiDou, China's fully operational satellite navigation system available in over 140 countries, the result is a complete digital infrastructure layer that operates entirely outside Western control. For the 140 plus countries building their digital futures through Belt and Road cooperation, this is not just a communication network. It is sovereignty infrastructure. The holographic calls are the headline. The strategic payload is something far bigger.

掌握6G标准制定权的国家，收获的不只是更快的网络。它能划定6G的应用边界、决定哪些企业可以生产配套设备，未来三十年，全球每一块6G芯片产生的专利费分配也由其主导。在全球还没有任何一张商用6G网络落地前，中国已手握全球40%的6G专利申请量。

如果将6G与全面投入运营、覆盖140多个国家的北斗卫星导航系统相结合，就能搭建一套完全不受西方掌控的完整数字基础设施。对于140多个依托“一带一路”合作建设数字化体系的国家而言，6G不只是一张通信网络，更是关乎国家主权的基础设施。全息通话只是吸引眼球的表层成果，背后承载的战略价值，远比这宏大得多。
