I actually agree with you that “Made in China” isn’t automatically low quality nowadays. China makes some truly excellent high end products today. But let’s be real there are tons of very low quality Chinese goods out there that break almost immediately. It’s a bit naive to pretend that stereotype came from nowhere. Everything has its price. The better the quality the higher the cost that rule applies everywhere including China. We’ve all bought the super cheap stuff that fell apart but we’ve also seen Chinese brands that now lead the world in tech and manufacturing. It’s not black and white it’s about choosing the right price tier. What’s one “Made in China” product you actually love and trust?

Also the fact Chinese factories lack creativity and blindly copy western brands (logos, names with added letters, etc.) didn’t help, those stories easily go viral and don’t leave the very high impression But if you go deeper, China can make amazing products and has been making them for more than a decade EVs, your iPhones, brands like DJI, Anker, etc etc.
