In 2015, China set out on an ambitious 10-year plan – dubbed “Made in China 2025” – to achieve self-reliance, innovation and strength in the manufacturing industry. At the time, the nation was known as the “world’s factory” and stood at the lower end of the global industrial value chain. A tech war between the US and China significantly impacted the plan. But despite geopolitical tensions, more than 86 per cent of Beiing’s goals have been met, with several remaining targets likely to be completed by the end of 2025.

The US's problem is all about the military industrial complex. The US has reduced its manufacturing capacity while China expanded theirs. But not for weapons. We still make the most weapons and tech ( because tech is military funded and needed for weapons) while China makes nearly everything, including tech. Europe and the US are such a whiner, complain about market access. You can easily find Ford, GM, KFC, Starbucks, Coca Cola, Gucci, LV, Microsoft, Hollywood, etc in China. But the same can't be said about Chinese brands in the western market. China should take a page from Trump art of the deal, reciprocity. If they want to close their markets to Chinese brands, China should also do the same with theirs.
