NEW DELHI: German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Monday for a two-day official visit to India from January 12 to 13. The visit comes at the invitation of PM Modi and marks Chancellor Merz’s first official trip to the country.

PM Modi is scheduled to meet Merz in Ahmedabad today. Their itinerary includes a visit to the Sabarmati Ashram at around 9.30 am, followed by participation in the International Kite Festival at the Sabarmati Riverfront at around 10 am. Bilateral engagements will begin from 11.15 am onwards at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

During the meetings, the leaders are expected to review progress in the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Discussions will focus on further intensifying cooperation in trade and investment, technology, education, skilling and mobility, while advancing collaboration in defence and security, science, innovation and research, green and sustainable development, and people-to-people ties.

新德里：德国联邦总理弗里德里希·梅尔茨于1月12日至13日对印度展开为期两天的正式访问，本周一已抵达萨达尔·瓦拉巴伊·帕特尔国际机场。此次访印应莫迪总理之邀展开，也是梅尔茨总理首次对印度进行正式国事访问。

莫迪总理定于今日在艾哈迈达巴德会见梅尔茨，双方行程安排为：上午约9点30分到访萨巴尔马蒂静修所，随后于上午约10点出席萨巴尔马蒂河畔的国际风筝节，上午11点15分起，将在甘地讷格尔的圣雄纪念堂开展一系列双边会谈。

此次会晤中，两国领导人预计将回顾印德战略伙伴关系的发展成果——该伙伴关系近期刚迎来建立25周年。双方会谈将聚焦进一步深化贸易投资、技术、教育、技能培养与人员流动领域的合作，同时推动防务安全、科技研发创新、绿色可持续发展以及民间交流等方面的协作升级。

The visit builds on momentum from regular high-level political interactions between India and Germany. The two leaders last met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Canada, where they agreed to further broaden the bilateral strategic partnership. During that interaction, PM Modi extended an invitation to Merz for an official visit to India.

The visit is also significant in the lead-up to the India-EU Summit scheduled for January 27. Speaking about India-Germany cooperation, German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann recently highlighted collaboration in defence and security, asserting that “the strategic partnership between the nations has grown over the years.”

此次访印也依托于印德两国常态化高层政治互动的良好势头。两国领导人上一次会面是在加拿大七国集团峰会期间，当时双方达成共识，决定进一步拓展双边战略伙伴关系，莫迪总理也在此次会面中向梅尔茨发出了访印的正式邀请。

在定于1月27日举行的印欧峰会临近之际，梅尔茨此次访印也具有重要意义。德国驻印度大使菲利普·阿克曼近期谈及印德合作时，重点强调了两国在防务安全领域的协作，并明确表示“两国间的战略伙伴关系多年来持续深化发展”。
