NEW DELHI: Amidst ongoing efforts by India and the US to finalise a bilateral trade deal, PM Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump spoke on Thursday, reaffirming their shared commitment to carrying forward bilateral cooperation while also discussing regional and global issues.

The conversation came within a week of Modi's summit with Russian President Putin and in the middle of renewed efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war on the back of Trump's peace plan.

The two sides are looking to arrive at a common understanding on issues amid indications that US is still seeking access for its farm products like corn and soybean, among other issues. The two sides have been in talks for a bilateral trade pact since March.

"Had very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity," Modi posted on X.

新德里：印美两国正全力推动双边贸易协定最终敲定，在此背景下，印度总理纳伦德拉・莫迪与美国总统唐纳德・特朗普于周四通电话，重申两国将携手推进双边合作的共同承诺，同时就地区及全球议题交换意见。

此次通话距离莫迪与俄罗斯总统普京的会晤尚不足一周，且正值特朗普借其提出的和平方案、重启推动俄乌冲突停火的努力之际。

有迹象显示，美方仍在寻求玉米、大豆等农产品的印度市场准入，双方正就相关议题寻求共识。两国自今年 3 月起便开启了双边贸易协定的谈判进程。

莫迪在社交平台推特上发文称：“我与特朗普总统进行了十分热烈且深入的交谈。我们回顾了双边关系进展，并就地区和国际形势交换了看法。印美两国将继续携手合作，为全球和平、稳定与繁荣而努力。”
