This is another development to watch also: Zhejiang Airspace Integration Low-Altitude Industry Development Company just placed an order of 18 AS700 manned airships from the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) last November 18. This deal, one of the largest modern acquisitions of manned lighter-than-air vehicles, marks a milestone in China’s air travel industry. Airships use less fuel than jets and they also can fly at lower altitudes making them ideal for short routes replacing small jets and helicopter flights. While the industry is only in its infancy so you can bet there will be improvements coming soon.

In the 1970s the US had a national security risk because we were dependent on middle east oil. We solved it by drilling and becoming the largest producer of oil. China had the same problem in 2010, they are solving it in a better way.

Probably not a problem for a dense population where trucking distances are relatively short and appropriate funds have been spent on charging infrastructure. As far as emissions go they will rise with the manufacturing of EVs but then start to make a real saving after years of use. The EV batteries are made with power generated by coal.
