India is adding mega Infrastructure projects, but this infrastructure push hasn't come with a quality upgrade.

What goes into their minds when they say “ I’m wearing Jimmy Choo and Chanel and drive a Porsche” while living in these conditions… unimaginably stupid.

India's brightest civil engineers are employed by MnC's to design infrastructure for the Middle East, USA, Europe and Australia/NZ. Almost every major global construction multinational has multiple offices in India. Most engineers would not work for Indian companies due to low pay and culture. What you have left to work on Indian projects isn't capable enough to match global standards. People would be surprised to learn how much Indian engineers contribute to the design of highways, roads and buildings abroad.

You are right, but its more of an execution problem than design issue. 99% of the road and infra design are straight forward, there arent much complexty, the design is mostly copy paste in majority of the cases and it would work well if the construction is done as per the design. But thats where is problem lies, poor execution, poor monitoring by govt agencies, poor quality control and lack of Contrl over Contractors due to underlying corruption which leads to all the issues. If the Top Civil Engineer (Chief Engineer in Govt Depts) will not allow any corruption and hold all his subordinates accountable, then our infrastructure will be way better than what it is, if not the best in the world.

你说得对,但问题更多出在执行上,而非设计。99%的公路和基础设施设计都很简单,没什么复杂性,大多数情况下都是照搬设计方案。只要按照设计施工,效果肯定很好。但问题就出在这里:施工执行不到位、政府机构监管不力、质量把控不严,再加上背后存在腐败问题,导致对承包商失去管控,所有问题也由此产生。如果政府部门的高级土木工程师(总工程师)不纵容腐败,让下属都承担起责任,那么我们的基础设施就算成不了世界最好,也会比现在好得多。

Remove the lowest bidder criteria. Give work to experience company for road planning and construction. Most of builders are involve in corruption and have close relation with local politicians who take shares from allocated budget.

Crisis in education syllabus, not grooming civil engineers, competition with software career, giving civil engineers better pay, etc all contributing.. On sites you don't see civil engineers.. Only thekedar if needed and laborers.. That is sad reality of India.. Laborers take max decisions there

Ever since the BJP came to power, corruption has soared to unimaginable levels! Out of every ₹10 crore allocated to a project, nearly ₹8 crore vanishes into the pockets of politicians. The contracts are handed to their friends and relatives, who use substandard materials and pocket another crore. Government officials take their share, another ₹50 lakhs and the project that should’ve cost ₹10 crore is completed with barely ₹50 lakhs’ worth of quality. This is the worst corruption India has seen since independence. Our hard-earned tax money is being shamelessly looted!

These aspects of engineering are very well standardised. The problem is that people are signing off on designs without looking carefully and the second problem is use of low quality materials or cutting corners by the builders and contractors. That is a systemic problem and not a civil engineering problem

As a Civil Engineer I vehemently disagree with people in Coments saying that this is not a Civil Engineering crisis. It absolutely is. A proud civil engineer would never make such lousy infrastructure. Civil engineers are underpaid and overworked more than anyone else in Engineering. We also have no Avenue to start our own firms as only big businesses can afford them. You will not see Civil Engineering start ups. You will see IT, Electronics, and even Mechanical engineering start ups but not Civil Engineering ones. State of Civil Engineering and Civil Engineers is the reason for poor infrastructure.

作为一名土木工程师,我坚决反对评论区里那些说“这不是土木工程危机”的观点。这绝对是土木工程领域的危机。一个有职业自豪感的土木工程师,绝不会造出这么劣质的基础设施。在工程行业里,土木工程师的薪资最低,工作却最繁重。我们也没有机会创办自己的公司,因为只有大公司才有能力承担相关成本。你看不到土木工程领域的初创公司,能看到的是IT、电子甚至机械工程领域的初创公司,但土木工程领域根本没有。土木工程行业的现状以及土木工程师的处境,才是基础设施质量差的原因

不妨去看看,印度理工学院(IIT)的土木工程师有多少转行去了IT行业、移民国外,或者想成为印度行政服务官员。可悲的是,只有这个领域里能力不行的人,才会加入“加德卡里军团”。

Corporate Manslaughter Laws are needed in this country to punish the erring contractors. Also the govt. officers incharge of monitoring the quality of construction should face the public, explaining the lapses not just on the contractor's part but also on his part.

印度需要制定“法人过失杀人法”,用以惩罚那些失职的承包商。此外,负责监管建筑质量的政府官员也应该面对公众,解释不仅是承包商存在的失误,还有他们自身的失职之处。
