Speaking at a major auto show, BYD’s VP Stella Li said China’s overcrowded EV sector is unsustainable. With just 10% of the 129 EV brands expected to survive by 2030, price wars and shrinking margins have gripped the industry. State subsidies fueled the boom—but also built a bubble. As Chinese EVs face foreign tariffs, BYD plans to build in Europe. But will global expansion save China’s struggling EV sector?

Electric vehicle owners enjoy lower electricity prices, and China's power system utilizes surplus electricity at night. As for electricity sources, China currently relies primarily on thermal power generation, but is also develo largescale renewable energy projects. China leads the world in new hydropower, wind power, photovoltaic power, and nuclear power capacity additions. In the first seven months of 2021, China's electricity investment in clean energy, including hydropower, nuclear power, and wind power, accounted for 91.7% of total power generation investment.

She is not wrong. It has happened so many times in history in different industries. If the supply becomes too much, many will lose and there will be an insurance industry crash which will affect everyone. What the smaller brands in China need to do is to merge. Merge and become bigger car companies. Nigerian banks did that many times which made them stronger than they were before 2009.

This warning is also due to the new hybrid/ hydrogen cars discovery by BYD. Which is more economical for customers, manufacturers and climate. It's high time governments should change their EV policy. Anyway those who don't evolve out of EV, will be naturally pushed out of car markets globally.

For those countries that use tariff to block Chinesemade EV cars import, it only shows one thing, that is, they acknowledge that their car manufacturers are fall behind in terms of technology and they just cannot compete with Chinese cars.
