Shanghai delivers mega 9,000-car carrier to Italy in just 179 days

China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Friday delivered its first 9,000-car carrier, the Grande Tianin, to Italy’s Grimaldi Group, its 600th vessel since 2003, totaling over 102 million deadweight tons. Built in a record 179 days, the 200-meter ship can haul 9,000 vehicles up to 250 tons across its 14 decks.
On Aug 19, it will sail to Europe carrying Chinese startup automobile manufacturer Leapmotor’s 1 millionth EV.
For Grimaldi, China’s speed, quality and EV export growth were key factors.
The ship uses a new low-fuel engine and a shore power system ensures zero emissions while docked. It’s also certified “Ammonia Ready” that can be upgraded in the future to run on clean, zero-carbon fuel, part of China’s bigger push into low-carbon ship.
中国上海外高桥造船有限公司于周五向意大利格里马尔迪集团交付了首艘9000车位汽车运输船“Grande Tianin”号。这是该公司自2003年以来建造的第600艘船,总载重吨超过1.02亿吨。这艘船长200米,拥有14层甲板,可搭载9000辆汽车(单辆最重250吨),建造周期仅179天,创下纪录。

Unlike what WSJ portrayed, the commercial ship building center transitioned from Europe->Japan->South Korea and now (partially) China. US never dominates it and is always MIC driven.

Ship building is the sign of national strength, Just like aircraft manufacturing. They both link to comprehensive national strength, it's not as simple as just building ship or aircraft. Behind Boeing or Lockheed, there's hundred high tech company and behind China shipyard also there's hundred high tech company.
