They had since 2010, but is backlog until 2050, due to no one in the US know how to build commercial ship now days.

The issue is Japan is more independent in terms of weapons production - with the F-15J for instance having all the important components produced in Japan. Ever since then the US has actively tried to limit Japan's defense industry as they could serve as a competitor to the US defense contractors. South Korean defense industries by contrast are far more under the US thumb, to the point it has been speculated in South Korean media that the real reason their former president declared Martial Law and got his own people to overthrow him was the fact that the South Korean legislature did not want to send the bulk of South Korean artillery shell stocks to Ukraine and leave themselves open to North Korean invasion.

Looking at ship with almost 70 years on Earth, I see the world ship companies as a big scam in many cases. They have figured out how to game the system and make us all dependent on them. I mean, we ARE dependent, as we should be, but I sense they are somehow screwing people over.

Please Stop stressing on subsidies as a reason for China's success. No country provides more subsidies for their industries than the United States which provides hundreds of billions of dollars across every industries from banking to housing, tech,and auto,every sector imaginable. The Chinese work extremely hard under good management and it's paying off. They are the leaders of many technologies thru their own R&D they're defining the next generation of global standards and have no need to steal ideas ,as they are at the head of the class.they invest more into research and development than any other nation, they have many more STEM graduates than any other nation,The United States is now concerned about ship building,only to tare it down and cause more destruction,while China continues to push ahead building up the rest of the world.

Yesterday it was reported that China will have a 1 Trillion Dollar surplus in trade. With this much money they need something to move all this stuff around.

That's the 'gross' amount. The real concern is how much of that is profit ('net') revenue. Its tough to get good reliable data out of China, but from past experience I'd say the 'net' is very, very slim.

A good portion of the profit in that surplus go back to foreign countries. iPhones are counted as China export because they're built in and exported from China, but most of the profit goes to Apple

That report said since Nov 2025 year, China surpass it's surplus with USA in trade of OVER a Trillion US$$$. In 2024 alone did surplus of 998Bn US$ w/USA. That money once went to US Treasury Notes, but no more since the Russian Sanction/Seizer Asset. Today, China surplus go thru their BRI and SCO programs. fyi, those 87 new ships are to replace exsting dirty fuel ship into retirement. China PRC has move to a cleaner World.

Not when changes to tariffs keep happening. In 2025 alone, there have been over 400 different tariff policy changes. How can companies make any kind of long term plans with so much uncertainty to what costs for major types of materials being used will be.

China can do so, in ONE REASON !!!! China keep the cost of manufacturing low and easy to access raw material. China first did it with PVC material in the 1980s, then ENERGY in the 1990s.

just look at the biggest most dominant economies the past 200 years. the qing dynasty made up over half the earths economy due to its massive trade surplus and output of goods. then the british with the industrial revolution then the us with its massive past manufacturing then japan for a while. so a deciding factor is manufacturing like how heart rate represents general health

As mentioned before, many times, the MOST EFFICIENT means of ship are "slow water" and "steel on steel, aka rails". In times to come, it is obvious that any global ship of bulk products will be one of those two methods. This is the MONEY talking, not some stupid politician who never passed Physics or Chemistry 101.
