Sri Lankan President Says, "Chinese Research Ships" are Welcome

Sri Lanka's President, Ranil Wickremesinghe has denied the speculations that a Chinese "spy vessel" docked at the Colombo port.

However, Wickremesinghe said that "research ships" from China among other nations were welcome to Sri Lanka for exploration.

In an exclusive conversation with Firstpost's Palki Sharma, the Sri Lankan President spoke extensively on the allegations that China had sent "spy vessels" to Colombo.

The man literally laughed at Palki's face when she accused Sri Lanka of allowing Chinese spy ships. He told her that India and the US failed to provide evidence that those Chinese ships were spy ships. He then went to tell Palki that all ships from all countries are allowed, even if its warships. Palki was left embarrassed.

The reason Sri Lanka distrusts India is because India funded, armed and trained Tamil Khalistan in SL. Then in 1987 literally saved Prabhakaran (LTTE leader) during operation POOMALAI from certain death or capture which extended the war for 30 years. India is the reason China appeared in SL. India is the reason War dragged on for 30 years. This is all geopolitics.

India must be very cautious in dealing with this type of neighbours! Dont go all the way, must  keep respectable distance and must never lower our guard, looks like they have dagger hidden behind their back. President of Sri Lanka urges India (via Palki”) to have an open mind and trust Sri Langka & Maldives to managed their own internal / external matters. These are also nations with own leadership and will know how to deal with their adversaries or partners. For example, what is wrong in connecting up with Myanmar & African Ports for a trade route? In fact India can even offer Chennai  along the eastern coast as another connection 14:27 . Also what is wrong to allow Chinese vessels to dock -‘and being so suspicious of spying? Do you know when vessels dock, they have to pay for all the Port Dues / Pilotages and a chance of vessels to buy provisions & services? Being narrow minded and also worried of others’ progression will only deter own’s progression. That is the karma we all believe.

palki wanted him to blame China for Sri Lankan debt and the President was quick to correct her and make her look like the clown she is. A journalist is supposed to know what she is talking about. She didn't even know what she was talking about, she had to be corrected.

Seems like Palki is forcing the issue for the president of Sri Lanka that China is the bad guy while India is the best friend Sri Lanka ever have.  Such a properganda mouth piece for her boss Modi and her master in Washington.  I give the credit to president to keep the question and answer straight forward without any lead toward Palki agenda, which is to destory China international influence in South Asia.  Palki kept on insisting that China this, China that the President grew tired of her interrogation.

As a small country you cannot totally forget china and work only with India. You have to work with both. As a good neighbour India should try to pass economic benefits to SL like what china is doing with Vietnam. India should try to share their economic fortunes like setting up manufacturing plants etc with neighboring countries for a better economically stabilised south asia region. SLs never forgot the support given by India during the crisis. China - well u need to manage them more strategically.
