IAF to buy 156 more ‘Prachand’ Light Combat helicopters for deployment along China, Pakistan borders

NEW DELHI: In a major push for the Centre's 'Make in India' initiative, the Indian Air Force is planning to place an order for 156 more Prachand Light Combat Helicopters with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), reported ANI.

据ANI报道，为了大力推进“印度制造”计划，印度空军计划向印度斯坦航空有限公司(HAL)订购156架“普拉昌德”轻型战斗直升机。

The choppers will be deployed both in the eastern and western sectors by the IAF and Indian Army, giving forces more muscle along the China and Pakistan borders.

这些直升机将由印度空军和印度陆军部署在东部和西部地区，提升印中和印巴边境地区部队的实力。

The two services have already inducted 15 of these choppers in their fleet in the last 15 months after holding trials in the most extreme weather conditions and terrain in the world.

A senior defence official told ANI that the Indian Air Force has moved a proposal to the government for buying 156 more Prachand choppers as a joint acquisition case which is likely to get approved soon.

Recently, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari had announced that Indian Air Force is looking to buy around 100 more Light Combat Aircraft Mark 1A.

The combined total of the two projects will be over Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

Will HAL be able to manufacture so many Helos and ensure timely delivery? Because of of 40 Tejas Mark 1 ordered in 2011, only 32 have been delivered till date and none(out of 83) of the Tejas Mark1a ordered in 2020 have been delivered yet. I think time is very important here not the order numbers.
