Air India Delhi-San Francisco flight lands safely in Russia after engine snag
NEW DELHI: Air India’s Delhi-San Francisco non-stop flight on Tuesday made a safe landing in Magadan, Russia, after one of the Boeing 777’s engines developed a snag.
The aircraft (VT-ALH), with 232 people on board, had taken off from IGI Airport at 4am on Tuesday.
The plane “developed a technical issue with one of its engines.”
“Air India will operate an alternate aircraft from Magadan to San Francisco on June 7, carrying all passengers and crew, who are at present accommodated in local hotels in Magadan. The authorities are extending all cooperation in our effort to ensure that passengers safely reach their destination at the earliest,” an AI official said.
US says closely monitoring situation
The United States said it is closely monitoring the situation after a San Francisco-bound Air India flight made an emergency landing in Russia.
"We are aware of a US-bound flight that had to make an emergency landing in Russia and are continuing to monitor that situation closely. I'm not able to confirm how many US citizens were aboard the flight at this time," state department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters at his daily news conference.
"It was a flight that was bound for the United States. So, it is, of course, likely that there are American citizens on board. There's public reporting from Air India that they are sending – what my understanding is – a replacement aircraft to the destination to have the passengers carry on for their route, but I would defer to the air carrier to speak to anything further on this," Patel said in response to a question.

It will take a very long time for AI to become world class. The babu culture of India has made it rotten to the core
air India now belongs to Tata so this attribution is factually incorrect. AI will eventually become world class with time, due to professional management.
It is really disturbing to note that we are hearing about the Air India planes only getting snags frequently. Now that Tatas have taken over this airline, we expect that there will be stringent checks and adequate maintenance so that confidence of the travellers on this airline is built again.

Uncle Sam need not worry. Russia is not a devil like them.
There are US citizens on the flight. They have a right to be concerned.
Wanted to go to US. Went to Russia
Jumla Jeevi Vikass
Putin uncle may detain US citizens in the flight. Send them to jail to bring US on edge.
You are under illusion that Putin is so powerful that he can fight rest of world. As of now US is just hel Ukrain with arms and engaged Russia for more than a year.
There are US citizens on the flight. The US has a legitimate interest and concern if US citizens are onboard a flight that is rerouted, no matter what the issue.
This is becoming a regular issue with Air India. What a shame that Tata management is overlooking the problem ignoring himan safety and hit on their and India brand image.
What is there to monitor.. its a notmal flight emergency and had to land somewhere nearby. Americas are still buying russian oil and zelnsky blew up the dam to put more sanctions on russia ..
Even if there are US citizens in plane it will only be our Indian origin people
At least a probable accident was avoided.
Boeing 777 engine must be Pratt n Whitney.
N T Shah

Putin Tera Baap
The plane was a Boeing plane and the engine was made by Pratt and Whitney both American companies...can't blame the Indians
Air india airhostess all old aunties release faarrtt often and create trouble for passengers and aircraft.
And pray, what will the US do? Send in the Marines?
Why to be hostile unnecessarily?
US bound flight which likely to have some US citizens did an emergency landing in Russia which is not a friendly nation for US. So naturally US is a bit concerned and monitoring the situation.
Flying Donkey And Monkey
Unnecessary panic by the USA.....Its just a drunk Indian UrinatorUrinated on the planes engines at 38000 feet..... nothing to worry about..... India is a petty country which only talks with no action....
Technical snag is possible in any flight but fortunately the flight has landed safely.
Air India Planes are worth only for Junk-Yards specially their frame/bodies., extremely in shivery conditions. Air India must not play very dangerous game by flying them.
Putin Tera Baap
Americans on that flight must be wetting their seats
