NEW DELHI: China is set to increase its military spending to about $225 billion this year, a 7.2% hike compared to 2022 and the quickest rate of increase since 2019, amid rising tensions with the US and its neighbours over Taiwan, the disputed South China Sea and control of the Indo-Pacific region.

China, with the world's largest military in terms of personnel, is busy adding a slew of new hardware, including aircraft carriers and stealth fighters.

The USA is far ahead in terms of defence spending, followed by China. All the other nations are far behind .,India is far behind it's rival , China. It is good to see India siding with the USA, after the Ukraine war.,But, see the amount the  world is spending on defence budgets on the one hand, and the poverty in other parts of the world. If such huge amounts can be used for eradication of poverty and illiteracy, the world would be a far better place to live in.

USA’s spending of 800 billion military budget is not entirely towards protecting USA. A major part of that 800 billion budget is going towards donating to begger nation Pakistan and another begger nation Ukraine so that they can continue their proxy wars.

USA is already moving some of the critical semi-conductor technology related infrastructure out of Taiwan, and setting up those in USA. The goal is to avoid any shortfall in semiconductor supply chain, and stop China from getting some of the critical technologies, in case they capture Taiwan. We have our own weapon to counter China. Population. After next few years populations of Japan, South Korea and few European countries will be reducing drastically, then India will step in as true super power. Currently also Russia is facing soldier shortage in Ukraine war, weapon is not an issue for them.

7.2% hike in dollar terms is HARDLY anything. Shouldn't read too much into it. Inflation in US is higher than that. It would mean that - in REAL terms - China is spending less than it did last year.
