India to export Tejas to Arab world, Europe? Talks on for sale with three nations

India is in talks with at least three countries for possible sale of its indigenously-built Tejas light combat aircraft. New Delhi is sharpening its focus on getting a toehold in foreign markets and aims to triple its defence exports in the next two years. India is in talks with Egypt, Argentina and Botswana. HAL says Egypt has projected a requirement for 20 aircraft while Argentina needs 15 new fighters. India is also in talks with the Philippines to sell its light-combat helicopters.

Tejas is India's pride.. Entire India should stand with it unitedly ,our own Airforce requirements is plus 20 squadrons, so even if a single Tejas is not purchased by any other nation it should NOT Matter at all.
Rafale should be the last jet purchased by our forces, Tejas can be upgraded to Mach 6 so we should focus on our strengths. Rest will follow.

Having followed the project for decades I can say wid confidence this plane is incredible. Most is indigenous. The new hyper engine is not & currently the radar is of Israeli design but drdo & IIT r working on a Indian radar solution.

I think Argentina is the best prospect to place an actual order. I hope the GoI offers easy financing, since that will be enough to land the deal. Brigadier Xavier Isaac — chief of the Argentine Air Force – is attending Aero India and holding talks with top IAF officers and HAL officials. Tejas can now fire Brahmos NG, and use SAAW and other guided satellite navigation bombs to take out airfields.

Yes we are producing excellent defence products like Tejas & LUH & LCH helis. But as far as scaling up of production is concerned our record is pathetic to say the least. We have just produced about 20 Tejas till date after former PM Vajpayee named it. Similarly we have produced just a few no helis. HAL has got orders for 83 Tejas. When will it complete delivery.. in 10 years. By the time it will become obsolete. France delivered 36 jets in 4 years. How is HAL going to fulfill foreign orders when it is sitting on such big domestic orders? HAL just inaugurated the helicopter facility but has it recruited & trained the requisite manpower? Doubtful. So it will take at least 5 years to work at full capacity.
