No Gaganyaan unmanned flight this year
BENGALURU: The first unmanned flight as part of the preparations for the ambitious Gaganyaan project, will now happen only in 2021, as Isro revisits its plans owing to Covid-19. The mission was originally scheduled for later this year.
A senior Isro scientist said: “As per the plans being given to us, the Gaganyaan unmanned flight is not on this year’s schedule which focuses on other satellite launches.”
The scientist added that with the unmanned flight pushed, possibly to next year, the overall timeline of Gaganyaan, which envisages to send humans to space by 2022, will also get affected.
Isro chairman K Sivan told TOI: “With the present conditions, the unmanned flight may not be possible this year. We are planning about five to six missions, including the GiSAT-1 whose launch was postponed earlier this year. The details of these missions will be made public later.”
As per Isro’s preparation plans for Gaganyaan, the manned flight is to be preceded by two unmanned flights that will test all the systems before sending humans onboard. Now, the postponement of the first unmanned flight would mean that Isro will have to launch two unmanned missions next year if it has to keep the date set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Our plan is to take the humanoid in the unmanned flights. Whether we will launch two unmanned missions next year will depend on the emerging situations, we will have to decide based on what happens in the coming months. If Covid effects continue further, we may have to revisit some of our plans further,” Sivan said.
Meanwhile, the four astronaut-elects are continuing to train in Russia after a brief suspension in training due to Covid-19, as reported by TOI earlier.
Chandrayaan-3 Postponed Too
Sivan said that even Chandrayaan-3, which was originally planned for end of this year or January 2021 will be postponed. The plans clearly show that Chandrayaan-3 is slated for next year, and various teams have been working on it, another scientist said.

Use the money meant for Gaganyan for the welfare of hapless migrant workers.
The government has collected a lot of money in PMCARES. When and where that money will be used?
Suspend all such missions for few years and spend that money on poor people welfare
Correct. This people does not have common sense. Doing anything that comes to their mind. Idiots
All good to haves should be postponed, including central vista
Okay, what about PM's New Delhi Project?
Why unmanned flight?. Put two animals in the first flight.
Spends money on Large stadium and Statues, but not on Medical felicities which is the need of the Hour. Ask the common man what they are going through.
The truth is the Government has refused the funds for Gaganyaan. Modi has no money for ISRO. More ever ISRO also had to contribute to the PM Cares fund.
20L Cr for Big Business houses but no money for ISRO that is problem. At Least ISRO is delivering. Government facilities have become revenue source for these business houses. They are delivering just NPA.
AND THIS IS EXPECTED AS THE LOCKDOWN AND SUBSEQUENT EFFECT OF CORONA WOULD HAVE IMPACTED THE SCHEDULE OF FLIGHTS.......
First feed the 100 crore ppl who don't have two square meals
Pappu Pass or Fail
Govt has no money to run govt...depends on cares fund...
Please schedule at least one manned mission to Mars with our dumb Pappu and his empty headed baaraatis.. Even a One Way ticket for them, is good enough for our nation...
Cut the funding to Isro and divert to improving health infrastructure through out the country. People do not need useless missions like Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan-3.
Constructing a space station is sn costly affair however ISRO must work for designing a capsule with docking mechanism into the iss so that having a manned mission is worth the time.
Spending money on space programs must never be considered as waste of resources it will benefit our country in the long run..

The only priority NOW in this Corona times should be of the Govt to ramp-up the Health infra at a super fast pace. Stop this moon travel plan and redirect that money to the welfare. There will definitely another chance to go to moon if we as a country survive this crisis well
the pandemic has subverted all schedules.
Why such projects are on delay due to virus ?
