Afghanistan Spent $5.5 Million Building a Road to China, But China Hasn't Said Yes!

In early October of this year, the Taliban government held a lively celebration to mark the completion of a road in Afghanistan that leads to the Chinese border.

Spanning 121 kilometers and costing approxmately $5.5 million, the road traverses the remote Wakhan Corridor in northeastern Afghanistan, ultimately reaching the Chinese border.

The entire project was carried out exclusively by Afghans, with no involvement from foreign engineers.

Notably, the celebration was an entirely unilateral affair on the part of Afghanistan; China neither sent representatives to attend nor offered any response regarding the road's completion.

On the Chinese side, the border remains blocked by barbed wire. There are no formal border-crossing facilities or customs infrastructure—only routine border patrols and controls.

As things stand, while Afghanistan is clearly eager to open this route, China appears to have no intention of reciprocating by opening the border.

This raises a few questions: Why would Afghanistan unilaterally invest funds to build a road that currently offers no direct access into China?

And why is China unwilling to open the border?

WHAT HAS AMERICA AND ITS ALLIES IN EUROPE DONE. NOTHING

This is purely propaganda. When China has an agreement with Afghanistan for such roads, they will be built in no time. If the boarder isn't fully open for commerce, it would only be because certain agreement hasn't been reached yet. Any information coming from the West criticizing China, you can be certain 99% of the time, it's propaganda.

By your Western naratives, THEY AHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO REBUILD THEIR CIVILIZATIONS.

Afghanistan is struggling to become uninvited guest. There are uninvited guests all around.

Afghanistan needs to stop its terrorist attacks on Pakistan.

A route that is functional 3 to 4 months a year and that only leads to one country is not worth the huge initial investment and expensive maintenance that is required. The Afghans are naive to think that their unitary action of building on their side is sufficient to force open the international route

That is not suitable for heavy trucks Local traffic will benefit

China should not trust Afghanistan. This road is definitely financed by US and India behind the scene.

Nah. Old news. Basically, theres an old, already used, road between the two country. It got functioning border crossing. Afghanistan wanna build new crossing. China refuse. After all, Is Is is still an issue.

No problem china is a big country . And such a roads are not a big thing for them its goid for Afghanistan more.

China won't open its borders to Afghanistan via the Wakhan Corridor, despite the fact that Afghanistan has completed its section of the road, because China does not want to do business with the world through the Chabahar Port in Iran, which is operated by India. China, while making a sham of friendship with Afghanistan, is ready to make the land-locked country a scapegoat of its veiled animosity towards India. China is nobody's friend. China befriends countries only on the basis of how it can profit from that country. No other consideration matters.

Current Afghan government is one 4 building , self-sufficiency & developments all across! China, if it want access to Afghan's abundance of resources , will have no choice but to use the route! Unlike Pakistan & India Afghanistan is lead by lions that defeated a coalition of over 37 Zionists nations & are free

I respect Afghan independence. But I also respect the practical limitation of the route. A road that can only function 3 to 4 months due to extremely harsh weather, remoteness and geological features , and that requires expensive maintenance once built is NOT a good investment. National security is a genuine concern too. The Afghan government needs to do its part to control the extremists before DEMANDING China to invest big on the route.

Then offer China some mining lease. Invite them.

This road has been reported on numerous times over the last couple years. Of course, China doesn't want to let the terrorists in, nor does it want to cause difficulties with Pakistan.

ationalthinker2200
China is very unlikely to built any infrastructure on their side to aghanistan for the forseeable future. Because the exports of Aghanistan through this corridor for the time being comes with the potential export of terrorism by the many uncontrollable factions and splinters of religious extremist into China s West. The trade is minicules but the instability and pandora box it opens is humongous.. Unless and until the Aghan central government can be an effective and disciplined..government China will be foolish to open a direct border access into China...from Aghanistan. Trade with Aghanistan would not even amount to 0.01 % of Chinas GDP..but the enormous potential spread of religious extremism and illicit weapons outweigh any trade benefits.

We should never have left Afghanistan. President was always right about these Taliban. China is not stupid.

USA must STAY HOME!

eleethtahgra7182
Nah. You shouldnt be there in the first place. Once you downed the laden guy, you should just leave.
