For years, the formula felt unbeatable: get an engineering degree, get placed, join a big IT company, and your life was set. That model created giants like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro — and became the career blueprint for millions of Indians.
But that blueprint is breaking.
长久以来,一套成功法则看似牢不可破:考取工程学位、顺利入职、进入大型信息技术企业,人生便能安稳无忧。这套模式催生了塔塔咨询服务、印孚瑟斯、维普罗等行业巨头,也成为数千万印度人效仿的职业发展范本。
然而如今,这套发展模式正在崩塌。

I worked in Bengaluru from 2003 to 2008, moved to the U.S. in 2008, and then visited India again for the first time in 2023. It was disheartening to see that Bengaluru felt even more challenging than it did back in 2008. Basic infrastructure still seems lacking in many areas—there are limited footpaths for pedestrians, inadequate pollution control, and very little adherence to traffic rules. What troubled me even more was the lack of civic responsibility in some places. Near HSR Layout, I saw a dead dog left on the footpath, in a severely neglected state with maggots, and no one seemed to step in to address it. Experiences like that are hard to forget. I also noticed people throwing trash carelessly, with little concern for their surroundings. It’s difficult to see such conditions and not feel concerned about the direction we are heading in compared to more developed countries. At times, it feels frustrating because we discuss these issues often, but meaningful change seems slow. I feel that stronger enforcement, stricter governance like China and Singapore , and greater accountability are necessary to bring about real and lasting change.
我2003年至2008年在班加罗尔工作,2008年移居美国,直到2023年才时隔多年首次回到印度。令人心寒的是,班加罗尔如今的生活环境,居然比2008年还要糟糕。当地很多地方基建落后,人行道稀缺,污染治理乏力,民众普遍不遵守交通规则。更让人不适的是,部分人毫无公共责任感。在HSR住宅区附近,人行道上有一条腐烂生蛆的死狗,就那样随意丢弃,没人清理处理。这种景象让人难以释怀,我还看到人们随手乱扔垃圾,完全漠视公共环境。对比发达国家,看到这样的现状,难免会为国家的发展走向感到担忧。我们总在讨论这些问题,实质性的改变却十分缓慢,实在让人无奈。想要实现长久的良性发展,就必须强化执法力度,效仿中国、新加坡的严格管理模式,落实责任监管。

Someone has rightly said .. our tech system is run by sales person and not by genuine knowledgeable people with tech mindset. Someone is not behind innovation .. just going paycheck to paycheck. They ask for things that are never being used. And basically they themselves do not know what they are asking for.
有句话说得很对,印度的科技行业,掌权的全是销售,而非懂技术、有专业思维的实干人才。行业没人重视创新,所有人都只是为了混工资过日子。客户和管理层总提一些毫无用处的需求,连他们自己都不清楚真正想要什么。

You mean the management people, who don't know shit about tech, only concerned about profits and boss around engineers in IT companies. The most unproductive later of a company. Yet they have the most cush and safe positions in a company. I mean so much layoff happened, how many times you heard an hr or manager was laid off? If an engineer messes up management takes action against them, but who takes action against management when they mess up? Forget about action, you can't even report it anywhere. When management (hr, rmg) mess up we engineer end up being fired, they don't face any action for their consequences. I ask all engineers to dump their tech qualifications and do MBA

I have worked in IT companies throughout my career, you are right but you need to understand a majority of India's techies lack behind converting tech lingo into business terms. There are few techies who do good in this segment of communication and they climb the success ladder and remaining just work paycheck to paycheck till layoffs.

Indian corporate is riddled with politics, language politics, regional bias. Hence a good candidate with good technical skills gets sidelined always. And the clients usually don't have control and knowledge about this scenario

I am jealous of EU countries who were never really so deep into the shit of IT.. They always respected, prefered all other fields too like Finance, Business, medicine, sustainable development etc.

EU countries have been at the forefront of IT right since the begng. It is only that they did not import a large number of Indian IT people like America did, and preferred employing their own. Labour laws in Europe are extremely strict and the immigration scams happening under the garb of IT talent sourcing can never happen there.

Europe is literally like leagues different, each citizen of europe is seen as quality in the world not just as a perception but the country itself makes its citizen worthy just because he happened to be born there. They can choose psychology, art, or the most basic carrer and still afford to live a luxurious lifestyle compared to the rest of the world all while having a family to raise. In india not even 1000 of citizens together make up that worth. All have to compete just to live a curated life or to escape this life and go somewhere abroad and live like a 2nd class citizen. Where u are born is really a big determining factor in life man. Its pessimistic as an Outlook but u cant deny how real it is.

This is quite true. As someone working in IT abroad, I can say that this is the result of the culture that motivated children to find jobs just for sustaining the family. That too relying on westerners feeding that culture. The westerners, especially the Americans, are greedy as hell and don't care about anything. Most companies mentioned here are American, and thank God I am not in America. It's a bad idea guys, please find a job that you love, even if it is ultimately coding. You will be able to take care of your family doing what you love. You can only improve in a job you inherently understand with your body.
这番话句句属实。我在海外从事IT工作,很清楚这一切的根源:印度的教育观念,只逼着年轻人打工养家,长期依附西方市场生存。西方人尤其是美国人,极度自私贪婪、毫无底线。文中提到的多数企业都来自美国,还好我没有留在那里。真心建议大家,找一份自己热爱的工作,就算还是写代码也没关系。做喜欢的事,既能养家,也能长久发展,只有发自内心认可的工作,才能不断成长进步。
