They have long range radar supported with satellite imaging. They will see you and touch you before you can even launch. Even if you hit them they are cheap and minimally staffed

Submarines are very valuable assets and not to be used for low value targets like these cheap container ships. The reason is once a sub launches missiles out torpedos it gives off it's location and can be hunted down. This is one reason why they should only be used against expensive targets in real war. Another thing to understand is that China has lots of robots drone hunter subs that will be deployed along with these ships to hunt any nearby subs as well. You don't want to risk your expensive manned sub with people inside against a cheap target with many potential hunter sub robot drones in the area.

核潜艇是高价值装备，不能用来打集装箱船这种廉价目标。潜艇一旦发射导弹或鱼雷，位置就暴露了，会被追踪摧毁。所以实战里，核潜艇只配打击高价值目标。还有一点，中国有很多无人猎潜艇，会跟着这些船部署，专门搜附近的潜艇。犯不着用昂贵的载人潜艇，去冒险对付这种廉价目标，周围还有那么多无人猎潜艇等着呢。

The radar is a dead giveaway. It’s not hiding itself. It looks too conspicuous and out of place. It also is a violation of geneva convention. Masquerading as civilian ships. If their civilian ships are hit, they have themselves to blame.

@anonanon7235, The ground rules have never been violated. American civilian ships don't carry offense naval systems and that's why they don't get targeted and neither do the professional troops hide behind civilians. While we can question the motivation and rationality, they do things by the book.

这些基本规则美国从没违反过。美国民用船不会装进攻性海军装备，所以不会被攻击。正规部队也不会躲在平民后面。你可以质疑动机合不合理，但做事都是按规矩来的。

Always been a concern of mine. Real or not, it is clearly a possibility which I suspect could be difficult to manage given the level of commercial ship activity around the world.
