US President Donald Trump may impose new tariffs on agricultural imports, including Indian rice and Canadian fertilizers, after hearing farmers’ complaints about cheap foreign goods that are undercutting US producers.

The remarks came at a White House meeting where he unveiled $12 billion in fresh support for American farmers. He said imports were challenging domestic producers and reiterated his intent to address the issue.

Trump said he would "take care" of alleged dum of Indian rice into the US. Farmers have pointed to falling rice prices, claiming imports from countries like India, Vietnam and Thailand are undercutting their crops. "They shouldn't be dum," Trump said. "I mean, I heard that, I heard that from others. You can't do that."

He also suggested possible tariff measures on fertiliser coming from Canada to encourage local production. "A lot of it does come in from Canada, and so we'll end up putting very severe tariffs on that, if we have to, because that's the way you want to bolster here," he said, adding, "And we can do it here. We can all do that here."

The comments came amid ongoing economic pressures, including concerns about inflation and consumer prices. Farmers, a key support base for Trump, have faced rising costs and market challenges linked to tariff policies.

特朗普称，会 “妥善处理” 所谓印度大米向美倾销的问题。美国农户指出，受印度、越南、泰国等国低价大米进口的冲击，国内米价持续走低。“他们不该搞倾销，” 特朗普强调，“我听不少人反映过这事，这种行为绝对不能容忍。”

Is India dum rice in US? I was under the impression that Indians can buy Indian rice at so many "Patel Shops", that cannot be called dum. Do the common Americans eat Indian rice? Chinese must be getting their variety of rice. In our rice, when cooked we want the grains to be separate while Chinese and all want a pasy texture. I may be wrong but that is what I had been thinking. They use chop sticks while we use spoons or fingers. By the by, has not Trump made the 50% tariff on imported rice?
