Don't panic Andre. U.S. Navy veteran here. China gets to enjoy this sort of "flirting" while we are not at war. LOL. No Navy ship ever travels alone. In reality, there will always be a complete compliment of Navy ships in the near distance. Those jets would have been history already during wartime. Remember the aircraft carrier and accompanied navy aircraft carrier group... So let me explain to you what really happened here. The Chinese fly away believing they've gotten a "win" over the U.S. But the win belongs to the U.S. because the scenario was purposely set up in order to test their jets, their defenses, their flight paths, flight times, etc. It was an intelligence operation designed to gain information regarding China's defense systems. And don't forget the satellite images that are being generated simultaneously. We can tell from space where weapons, jets, etc. are originating from based on generated heat from the ground. This gives great info regarding targeting sites. It was a great day for the U.S. Navy. LOL.

I am not going to go into great detail about my family but my grandfather also was in the navy during WWII my grand mother his wife worked in a bullet factory. My mom 22 years army dad 6+ years Force recon 3rd battalion. Me almost marine corps to was ready to ship out but I found a family instead. I've been thinking about this "encounter" for a while now, and this is my new perspective: ETA: While trying to play "chicken" with the US Navy and giving themselves a great big pat on the back for getting away with it, the only thing the Chinese pilots really accomplished was to reveal their "battle plans" and give the US time to analyze it all and come up with an appropriate response/defense should this scenarion play out during actual battle conditions. Congratulations, China! You've opened the door to your own defeat!

In terms of military strength, gone are the days that America can sail through contested waters. Put it simply, China didn't have to launch to fighters to take out the vessal, they could have used a hypersonic missile instead. This entire episode is naval gazing, testing each other, etc on the boarder near mainland China. Its a provocation, and not due to the Chinese. This is the same sediment on Taiwanese state media. The author of the video forgot its air=to-air... not air-to-ground/ship. I dont understand the statement how China is messing with the Americans, when its the Americans that intruded on navy day, probed a few hundred kms from China..lol

The biggest scare I can immagine happend when sometime around 2010(?), a Chinese submarine surfaced in the middle of a US carrier group. Didn't look like the Americans had expected it, so I assume they hadn't noticed it. I remember seeing a whole lot of comments then claiming the US knew they were there because it was an "out dated" sub as it run on disel. The thing about submarines is that once fully charged, Disel subs are more silent than nuclear submarines. Some years later the US apparently pulled the same stunt within a Chinese fleet, so I guess they are even.

@rimiko86 China hasn't proved it has the capability to do that yet, shooting a hypersonic missile at an object is one thing but it hitting a heavily defended moving target is another. Especially a ship designed to counter it.

In Taiwan strait, even Chinese artillery units in the mainland can hit your ship. Lmao. Chinese jets don't even need to engage the ship. Those are obviously for air defense based on the loadout. If China wants to sink that shit, only drones and missiles are enough. No need to do air show. Lol.
